I'm getting a HP Pavilion dv6500t in a few days, I plan on doing a format/fresh Reinstall to get rid of all the bloatware. I'm also thinking of splitting the partition into 2, one for the OS and the other for Apps & data.

What would be the best steps to take? I'm going to run the recovery disk before hand. Does HP give you a backup disk with the drivers? Is it better to use the HP driver site? I want to make sure I have what I need before hand.

    Thanks...
    Rich

It was $1560.99. Then add on State tax, and shipping if any.

The price above was including a $100 instant discount.

First burn the recovery disk with the software HP Supplies already on the computer. Then burn a copy of the SWSETUP Folder in the C drive. After that you can wipe your hard drive with a fresh copy of vista or xp. Or there's a guide on the forums somewhere to install a clean copy of vista without buying a new version.

Seconding this advice. Also, it might be a good idea to spend some time collecting updated drivers for your notebooks components prior to the format, and burn them to a DVD or save them on an external disk, so you have them at the ready.

You can use Gparted to partition your disk. It comes on a convenient live CD.

I would avoid making separate partitions. There's really no reason for it, and it can cause headaches later, like if you didn't give enough space to one of them, etc... Just keep all your data in the places it's supposed to be, like in my documents, etc... Don't start making folders like c:\data. You'll be able to back up everything if you need to by using that method.
