Im new here and i DID search but didnt find anything like the review pointed me to(these forums) for the sata problem..

A freind of mine was selling this laptop, so i googled it, found the review here and decided to go ahead and buy it for $150, i probably couldve talked him down to $100 ;)

But yea, this is my first laptop in 6 years (my very first was a compaq 486dx, win3.1) So yea i need some knowledge dropped on me. I dont play games or do any cpu intensive work on it so i think its going to fit my needs for the next year or two.

    My questions are.
After i disable the sata in bios, install xp, what exact drivers do i need to install?

Do i get the drivers from compaqs website or get the drivers from the device manufacturers website since they are updated more frequently (ie intel chipset, gfx, broadcom, etc)

How do i enable sata after a fresh install and it work properly without giving me bluescreen resets?

Are there certain config files i need to download and install to properly setup the battery saving, or does xp's builtin settings work good enough?

Any tips to throw my way id appreciate it

Has anyone installed vista on these models yet? I have rc2 and was tempted but dont feel like wasting my time if it isnt worth the hassle.

    Thanks!

EDIT: and whats up with this dvd drive, its quirky acting with my ridata dvd+r's

There is lots of good info in the reinstallation guides stickied at the top of the forum. Get the drivers off Compaq's site. I had Vista installed on my V3000. It ran fine, but no Aero.

Disable SATA in BIOS prior to reinstallation, install, boot, find the SATA driver here, reenable native SATa in BIOS and you should be OK.

You can use Nero to make a boot CD.
