From China?

This guy at work is going to pick up his new Compaq. He told me it came from china! Is that true with HP ones too??

I am going to check out his laptop in a hour. Its the compaq version of the dv5000z (which I might by)...

If the build quality is bad I will have search again for a laptop...

 

segadc, if you mean the v5000. I'm satisfied with the build. Some people have knocked it, but I haven't seen any real issues. My major problem with i is the placement of the touchpad relative to the kb. Its not center, so my right palm partially rests on it.

 

My brother's V2000z shipped from Shanghai. It even said so on the tracking, which was pretty amusing. To have a sticker that says MADE IN CHINA is one thing, but to have UPS say that your brand new $1000 computer just left Shanghai is hilarious.

 

Yeah I saw the fedex one this guy at work had. It had some city then CN next to it.

 

Yeah, just got my tracking number for my V2000Z today. Says it just left Shanghai... I don't care where it's made, for the price I paid, it's worth it!

 

Whenever I repair a laptop, i will look at its place of manufacture on the bottom. Almost all the laptop that produced in these one or two year is "made in china". Only those really old lappy are made in Japan, USA, Mexico. The only modern laptop that I saw "made in Japan" is Panasonic Tough book; "made in korea" is my old compaq presario/ EVO. I haven't seen any Asus/MSI which i believe is "made in taiwan" need repair so far.

 

This thread reminds me of several funny blogs I ran into while waiting for my Compaq v4000t to arrive from China.

Many people who bought from hpshopping thought that Shanghai, CN meant that their laptop shipped from "some city in Connecticut". Yes... According to them, Shanghai is an American city.. Shanghai, CN USA!!!

The stupidity of some people is often amusing.

 

80% of laptops are made by 3 companies in taiwan and china.

I thought my laptop shipped from Canada because it said CN. Then I relized when it arived in Alaska that it was shipped from China. LOL

Well I will be receiving my laptop within 2 weeks. I will let you know from when it ships to when it arrives... That is if it is coming from China...which it probably will...

 

im supposed to have mine by the 16 of this month which is next next week. just to think that my laptop is all the way in the other side of this world being built just for me well i hope it ships early

 

Mine says it will ship on the 17th. I picked the free slow shipping so it should come the week after. However, I am betting it ships early!

man thats fast but since when do they have 2-10 day free shipping? isnt it 5-7 day free shipping? man i still cant believe that my laptop will travel more in 2 days than i will in my lifetime

 

Well I ordered my dv8000z Saturday Feb 4th. It's supposed to be delivered Feb 15th. I selected the free 5-7 day shipping.

My new building doesnt have a front desk to sign for packages. So I had it shipped to my aunt's.

yea same here. i was thinking it was going to ship today but i checked my order on hpshopping.com and it says still no tracking available. man i hope they can ship it tommorow. i also get my newegg stuff tommorow.

I was hoping to get it on Friday. Maybe Tuesday looks more realistic now. Unless Fedex delivers it on Monday. Not sure if they will since it is a holiday.

no i will not get it on friday, i will get it on monday, thats the delivery date that says on the fedex website. i found it at the website. so yea yours might ship tommorow and you might get it on tuesday
EDIT: I just checked the tracking number and it is now in ANCHORAGE, AK. I mean thats fast for one day.

The date FedEx lists is a projected date. Mine came on a Monday when it was scheduled to come on a Wednesday.

My Presario v5000z was supposed to ship by today (the 15th) but I checked its order status, and no tracking number has been issued yet.

 

well mine is still in achorage and has already passed customs. its supposedly now in transit.

 

I just received the notification of delay.

"Dear Valued Customer,

Due to production delays we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 2/17/2006 or no later than 7 business days from the original estimated ship date."


Aargh, this had better not be the worse case scenario of really an additional 7 business days.

I then received an email about a onetime $50 coupon. What is worth getting as an accessory in the $50 to $60 range?

This is really funny!! Sounds like me when I ordered my V2000z! Like a kid on the stairs waiting for santa. If any of you need reassuring...I ordered mine on Jan 26 and was told that the build was finishing on Feb 8. But after checking on the order status every day, found that it was actually shipped by the 6th and I actually got it by the 8th. It only took 2 days for shipping, not the 5-9 days expected... Anyway, have fun with your new machines!!!

well i got my dv4000 and im having so much fun with it. yea fast shipping. mine shipped wednesday and it got here today in the morning so yea 2 day shipping and i picked the free 5-7 shipping. man thank god i got mine today well segadc hope yours ships soon.

This is just so annoying. Now it is the 18th. It was at the latest suppose to ship yesterday! It still says that... I have no idea what I can do here... I already called HP before and they see exactly what I see... Thbis is my first experience with HP shopping and so far I am not happy at all!

Edit: HP guy said that they do not ship over the weekend so my notebook is still at the factory. He said it should ship Monday and I will get it perhaps on Wednesday.

So in other words I bought it on the 8th and should received my laptop on the 22nd. That is insane. I am used of Dell ordering and receiving in the same week. I waited so long this laptop better make me happy!

Same thing here, except mines not even supposed to ship until the end of the month. I thought the guy on the phone was joking with me when he told me my ship date. 2+ weeks to "build" a computer seems insane.

 

When I ordered my dv5000z around the 18th of Feb. though the APP (since I am a student), it said that the build date was today, and will ship today...
It's shipped, but no ETA yet...

So this is an old thread I am bringing back! Anybody know the acutal Fed Ex route? Below is what I have so far. I am thinking the next stop will be Memphis before traveling down the whole state of Mississippi by truck to Gulfport. Anyone have a package come this way recently? I am hoping it arrives a little early... Which would be tomorrow. Any thoughts?

Once it hits the continental US I believe it depends on where you are as to the route. Your estimated delivery day of the 11th is because they don't deliver on the weekends of course. I guess it could be tomorrow but I would probably plan on Monday. I saw these posts that showed the Indianapolis or Memphis stops but mine never went there....I'm in Texas and it went from Anchorage, Alaska straight to my company's address in one day, pretty amazing!
