I ordered a nice new L2000 back on July 4th. I got an email today that says it shipped and I will have it in 2 days...thats great I thought until I checked the tracking number on FedEx.com...it must be a screw up in their system, it shows it will be delievered to my town but says -

July 12th 1:28 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Future delivery requested
2:31 PM Left origin SHANGHAI CN

What the heck is that, China!?! Has anybody else seen this? Was my laptop actually assembled and shipped from half way around the world? I have nothing against China in the least, I can't wait to see all the country stickers on the box when it gets here. It says the estimated delivery date is Monday the 18th. Very strange!

Yeah, that's how HP shipped my notebook 1 1/2 years ago. They must have some special deal set up with customs (and Fed Ex). It does arrive quickly, and no international stickers are on the box.

Mine shipped on Monday, ordered on the 3rd. It was in Shanghai(thats where theyre made), now its in Kazakhstan. The email said "2 business days" in bold print, but it didn't come today and I seriously doubt it can get from Kazakhstan to my door in less than one day for delivery tommorow. I didn't pay for 2-day service, so I don't know why the emails are saying that. It will get here long before the expected ship date so I'll be happy either way..

Yeah my ship date was supposed to be the 18th so I will be thrilled if it shows up here on the 18th instead. Those little laptops really do get to see the world dont they! If only they could talk :D

All major customizable notebooks are built in Asia and shipped over here. Gateway, HP, Dell, Fujitsu, IBM...they're all the same way. It's nothing to worry about, and it doesn't seem to delay delivery significantly. Although HP being so open about it is refreshing; Dell, for instance, hides that phase as "boxing."

When I ordered my HP, I tracked it from china, and it took about 5 or 6 days with standard shipping, from what I remember. Funny, mine went from china, to California, missouri, then to where I am, not the other way around the world....interesting.

My R4000 left China Tuesday, left the Philippines Wednesday, and now on Thursday it's stuck in Japan - "Delay beyond our control" says FedEx. Waaah!! :(
