Hello. I just got a dv4t shipped from hp with 2.53 gigahertz, 4 gigs ram, and integrated graphics and I seem to be having a problem. After about half an hour to 40 minutes of talking on skype with video, with firefox and maybe a folder or two open, aero enabled, opening just one more app that isn't even too processor intensive such as the task manager or device manager, I suddenly get a message stating aero needs to shut off and my webcam stops working. The only way to fix it seems to be to shut down skype. After I do that everything is restored. I was wondering what the problem may be. I would really love to fix this problem. Thanks!

Not sure this is the right forum for this, but the Mod will move it if its not.

Anyway, we have a similar (but not nearly as powerful) DV4t and my daughter uses Skype video all the time without issue. We're running Skype with IE8 though and not Firefox. I’d guess you've got a software conflict somewhere. Some things to check:

    - In Firefox, uninstall the Skype Firefox extention (known to cause issues)
    - Uninstall Firefox & try IE8. See if it does the same thing. (Skype uses parts of the IE core to function)
    - In Skype, go to tools/options/privacy and select no history and clear history.
    - In Skype, go to tools/options/advanced and deselect “automatically start extras” if you don’t use them.
    - Go to System Config and remove everything from startup that is not absolutely essential. I only have anti-virus, windows defender, windows sidebar, and Quicktouch checked. Everything else is un-checked in startup.

thanks for the response I took your advice. It seems that the issue might in fact be a software conflict between skype and UAC in vista as was discussed here: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=93329 I guess i'll just avoid UAC while talking on skype from now on.

You’re very welcome and nice find …..but be aware that those “issues” you referenced were written in 2007 when Vista was new and Skype was at version 3.something. My bad, but I should’ve also mentioned that along with IE8 our unit is running Vista SP2 and Skype 4.0. We also never run UAC.

Never-the-less, if that solves your problem then good deal. Last, you might want to hip pocket the “Skype extenstion issue in Firefox” if for some reason your fix doesn’t last. Give it a Goggle and you’ll find multiple hits. Here’s just one: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions

All the best....and thanks for the update!
