I am thinking of getting a new laptop (currently have the dv2500t), but I don't know if there are any major changes coming within the next few months. I know there is always change, and the advise is to just buy what there is, when you need it; but I just don't want quad-core chips, or LED screens to come out before May. Anyone now of any reason to put-off buying today vs. middle of May?

I think the next thing coming is going to be the new mobos?
-
Well Centrino 2 is coming out around Juneish, so if you can wait wait for that.
-
the spring refresh may come out. So the current series is the dvX7XX, while the new one will be dvX8XX

The biggest problem with my current dv2550 is the lack of a backlit keyboard. I'd take a Logitech MX AirBook if it came with a backlit keyboard. Aside from wanting a thinner version of the dv series, my next biggest hope for the new HP's are Hard drives that produce much less heat

I wonder if the x800x series will have Blu-ray in every machine, standard. It seems that the engadget article yesterday pointed at that. That would be worth waiting for, but I don't know how long to wait.

That would be awesome if they started including Blu-Ray players in laptops by default, but I kind of doubt that will happen. I haven't looked in awhile, but have they started to offer the option of a Blu-Ray burner in their laptops yet?

I'm waiting for a new design.. the hp2700 is getting outdated. if HP keeps the same design, i'll go with the Vaio SZ instead.

In asia they now have the DV3000, look it up, its quite cool. -
yea, but its not out yet here in asia...same graphics card as the 2700t, but double the memory..no backlit kb still...

Someone said HP bought all the ish they need to start making backlit keyboards so they got me all excited. That's literally the only real big feature i'm looking forward to.

I just googled thinklight, if it's just a LED in the bezel it should be easy to DIY one for any notebook. Just take 5V from the PS, a tiny switch somewhere and an LED. Drill a small hole, hot glue, bingo, DIY NightLight.
An actual backlit keyboard where the key markings are illuminated from within would be nice. -

Another option for the DIY crowd would be to buy some of that glow in the dark paint and carefully paint your keyboard with it. It would be really good on battery life.
