My month-old G42 14" laptop has been randomly freezing and hanging for no apparent reason. It'll intermittently freeze when you click on a hyperlink in a web page, try to send an IM through Yahoo Messenger, etc. for about 2-3 minutes and then release. It can then happen again just a few minutes later. I tried to restore Windows to an earlier date, safe mode, and a complete reinstallation of windows and it will still happen even when using those remedies. I'm on my 2nd G42 (the first one I returned to Best Buy for this same reason, but my current one started freezing outside of the return period). Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't noticed any excessive heat, but I'll look into it.

I primarily use Chrome, but sometimes use IE. I have Norton Antivirus & Java 6, update 24. I think my video driver is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250.

Thanks for the reply SoMeAm. I'm afraid my problem is still happening. I reboot and my laptop works fine for a few days and then it starts again.

    SoMeAm,

Yeah, I had lengthy talks with HP tech support (in India & US) for my first G42-303 where they had me run scans, restoring Windows to an earlier date, bios updates, safe mode, disabling 1/2 of the startup items and then the other 1/2, and finally reinstalling Windows, none of which stopped the freezing. I returned that one to Best Buy and got another G42-303, which worked fine for the first month and then regressed into freezing up just like my first one. I ran many of the same diagnostics/remedies, and I'm still having this problem. I haven't contacted HP tech support yet because I know they'll eventually end up wanting me to reinstall windows again, which I know will not solve my problem and will cause me to have to go through the hassle of backing up files again. I recently read the reviews for this laptop on Bestbuy.com and saw many others were having this same freezing problem. I'm thinking that it's a hardware issue and not software and perhaps there's a defective batch of G42-303s and I was unlucky enough to get two of them in a row.

Thanks for your e-mail. I'll send a message to that address sometime tomorrow with the info you need.
