I am so confused you would think the G50-124NR would have a wide screen like the G60-120US but no http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/rts_notebook/rts_notebook/1/storefronts/FR966UA%23ABA it looks like the standard 15.4 screen this site has numerous mistakes it lists a solid state 250 gig hard drive I think not can some one enlighten me?

1) That's clearly (as in visibly) widescreen
2) Resolution = 1280x800 = 16:10 ratio= widescreen
3) Display panel = 15.4" Diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen
Here are the real specs:

Solid State Flash Cache module is probably a marketing term to describe the standard drive cache on like every hard drive. Everywhere else it lists 5400RPM (which is what it really is) -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
The G60- 15.6" (16:9 aspect ratio), AMD Turion X2 processor (2.0GHz RM-70) and nVIDIA GeForce 8200M integrated graphics.
The G50- 15.4" (16:10 aspect ratio), Intel Pentium Dual Core processor (2.0GHz T3200) and Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics.
HP has said little, if anything, about either model. They quietly started appearing for sale without any announcement or additional info!
The G50 appears to be almost identical to the HP Compaq CQ50 (confusingly, some CQ50s are AMD-based and others are Intel-based). The CQ50-142NR at Circuit City is an example- http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Compaq-Presario-CQ50-142US-15-4-Widescreen-Laptop-CQ50-142US/sem/rpsm/oid/223177/catOid/-18746/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
Maybe HP is realizing that the Compaq name may not be much of an asset. Much like when Ford renamed the Five Hundred sedan as the Taurus- it was more off-putting to potential buyers than the original, unknown name!
Regardless of the reason for it, the G50 looks like a VERY solid deal. For around $600, it has the T3200 processor, 3GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, and DVD RW with Lightscribe.
The only differences I see between the G50 and a base-level dv5t are the lack of a 4th USB and/or eSATA port and the G50 weights about 0.7lbs more. -
There is also a G70 model available now with the standard 17 inch 16 10 aspect ratio. I like the 16 9 aspect ratio but want it in a smaller screen it looks like I waited in vain.

or you could get the G50-104NR for 350 bucks at best buy on black friday (or even today if you can happen to find one still in a store). My dad found me one last week. It's definately not as asthetically pleasing as a DV series, but it's a solid laptop. The specs on the 104NR are:
T3200/x4500/2gb/super multi with lightscribe/802.11G/120GB 5400rpm drive
it's a decent performer really, I upgraded mine to 4gb of ram and a 320gb 7200 rpm drive, it spanks my DV6609WM with the same ram and hard drive and TK55/7150GO
They are rather spartan on features though, my DV has expresscard/firewire/quicklaunch buttons/imprint finish/media center remote/3d audio etc and this thing doesn't have any of that, but since 2d autocad will be my only serious use of the thing the extra processing and graphics power is what i need. Though for as cheap as I got it I still might just flip it and the DV both and get something else.
G50-124nr ?
