    Hello,

looking for gudiance and help! I purchased a G7-1075DX laptop from a coworker that was dead. I sent the unit out and had the motherboard "upgraded" to a Intel I5 processor, as the previous board suffered the AMD/nVidia problem. The place repalced the board and reformatted the hard drive, loosing the restore partition.

When I received the laptop, the Bios states it is a model g6-1030ee and the serial number is different from my laptop. When I ordered the restore CD from HP, they had no restore CD for the G6 board, so I used my current model (G7-1075DX) and product #, I was told that if this does not work, I will have to purchase a different OS. The unit was shipped with Windows 7 Home Preimum 64 bit.

    My questions:
    1. Is there a way to change this in the Insyde BIOS? It is running the Insyde H2O Setup, Ver 3.5. The model and serial number field appear to be non changeable.

    2. When I do the restore from the restore CD's, will the different Model and serial numbers not allow me to do a restore?

    3. Will this cause a problem with Windows updates?

Thank you for the help in this! If there is someone on the forums that can help with this, I would be willing to pay for there time.

    Thank you,

    Matt
