As above, i get onto the recover cd creator and it collects the neccessary files and once it reaches 100% it says:

    Warning:
Disk image file exceeds 0 MB.
    Process Cancelled

How do i resolve this?? All i want is my recovery dvd so that i can do a fresh install

Are you using HP Recovery Manager to create your recovery DVD's?

Is this a recently purchased notebook or are you trying to create the recovery disks on a notebook you have been using for a while?

I am sorry I don't know what to tell you. I have not read or heard of anyone getting that error message before. You might wait and see if anyone else responds with a suggestion or "gasp" try HP Customer Support. You may be lucky enough to get some free recovery disks out of the deal from HP.

Don't ignore the possibility of a bad optical drive. HP used to have allot of duds. But if it is hardware related then you would know right away.. But yeah you might try to restore the image first to see if its a corrupt software. If it still does it I would personally return/refund it back since you are under 30 days (that is if you bought it online). Its better then sending it back and having them scratch it up. Allot of times if its hardware on a system under 30 days they will just ship you another one.. At least Dell does that. If you bought it retail you might not be so lucky.

Also try different media and see if that helps.

I'm having exactly the same problem. My drive seems to be fine as i've burned a few discs on it already. It's so annoying as i want to do a fresh install aswell!

    Hi

In looking for the answer to the very same problem for the HP DV5 I bought this morning I was led here, and as I was given an immediate solution by HP I thought I'd share it with you.

Once installed this worked for me, so I hope it's helpful to anyone else experiencing the same :)

Also, if you are going to use CDs you will need 13 of them, but only 1 DVD+R. Note DVD-RWs are not recommended, didn't find this out until the end of the installation and had to pop out twice, first to get a DVD-R and second to get the correct DVD+R DL.

    So far all's going well.
