Hello everyone, I just finished ordering a new customized DV2000T. I should be receiving it next week and I really can't wait. :D Here are the specs:

    Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0 Ghz
    2 GB RAM
    Nividia video card
    80 GB Hard Drive
    Webcam
    Matte Screen (Indoor/Outdoor use)
    ABG Wireless + Bluetooth
    DVD Burner
    12 Cell Battery
    Media Center OS

The system will be used primaly for school work (business in the future) and basic home apps, but I also have to take a 1hr ride on the metro to and from work so I want to play the occasional game. My question is, with the specs I listed, which games will run adequately in medium to medium-high settings???

I was thinking along the line of 2004 and older games (Call of Duty 1 maybe). Thanks,

The nVidia 7200 should be 'powerful' enough to play most games from 2004, I think. Not 100% sure, though.

It's not the best card, or even the most midrange card, but, it's better than Intel's GMA950.

Just don't plan to play any of the newer games, and if you are able to, they won't be very good quality.

    ;)

    Hope this helps.

    :)

With that said, I read somewhere here that the card has 32mb dedicated memory and the rest is shared. When I look at the recommended specs on the game boxes, should I pass on any that say they need more that 32mb or can I go up to 128?? Note sure how that works as I am mainly a console gamer (xbox 360). Thanks

Only 32mb? I think it comes with 128mb for dv2000t.

32mb dedicated. 96mb "turbocached" or taken from RAM. It's a decent card, along the lines of a desktop Geforce 4 Ti4200... You should be fine.

You can go up to 128MB.

I've heard of being able to go up to 256MB if you use an edited nVidia driver, which allows you to use up to 224MB of RAM for Turbocache, which HP's driver doesn't.

yeah the ram and processor are wonderful! The graphics card isnt too good though...
If you havnt already bought it, then I recomend looking at the dv6000t, you can get those same specs, but with a better memory card (256 mb)
    :D

Like I already said, there's 'custom' nVidia drivers that allow you to up the Turbocache to 224MB. There's your way to increase the Turbocache.

Not sure where to find them, but I have heard of them.

Well, like I said before, I don't plan on playing the latest games, but I do like to optimize and maximize what I have. It is not a big deal really, but I am the type that buys a tuner to squeeze an extra 5-10 hp out of an engine.

Download the latest drivers with the modded .inf files from www.laptopvideo2go.com. Follow their directions or search this forum for additional help, because it's not as simple as download and install. I think the amount of "TurboCache" video RAM you get depends on how much system RAM you have. For 256 I "think" you need 2 GB of system RAM. Also, I run Vista, so I can't speak for XP, but I get 256 MB of video RAM on my system using their modded drivers.

And the 7200 isn't the fastest graphics card in history but it does have most of the features of the other 7x00 series Nvidia chips, and is definitely more than enough to play any older and most recent games at decent settings. Future games on the other hand...
