Hey guys, I am hoping to start a more narrow thread on the specific differences of the OCed 6770m vs stock in terms of FPS or other benchmarks. I know the gaming thread has this info, but it's all scattered. I think having it all here would be beneficial. Enter in whatever format you like, but try to at least include the following info. If you have already posted this elsewhere, please port over here. If everyone starts participating and there are many posts, I will do my part and update this post with results.

    1. Game/Benchmark
    2. CPU/Ram/Resolution/AA, and whatever else you find relevant
    3. OCed 6770m frequency
    4. Stock results
    5. OCed results.

Where did you find 11.5b for mobility (Radeon HD 6770M)? Did you Mod? I'm still stuck on HP OEM drivers.

Go to this link ( AMD Catalyst? 11.5b hotfix) & download the driver first.

Run the installer on Express & don't uninstall the previous driver or run any type of cleaner (IE: Driver Sweeper). Reason: If you do this then it won't switch over to the Intel graphics, may not install correctly, &/or not allow you to install this or the previous driver requiring a Recovery to be run. (I only know his because I've tested it on the dv6tqe-6000 several times)

If it doesn't install correctly (usually because couldn't install the Microsoft C++ 2005/2010 Redistributble Package x64/x86 Ive seen both.) or give you an error while installing just ignore and restart. Out of 6 times ive tested this all 6 times gave me a AMD driver not installed error after restart. Restart again to fix this.

To check that the 11.5 driver has been installed correctly download & run GPU-Z ( GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility)

This will not work on the previous dv6/dv7 models w/ switchable graphics though. When you try to run the install it will you an error about no compatible graphics adapter installed. If anyone got this to work, let me know.

If you mean the launch dv6-6000s, I have one and it installed. Now whether it installed correctly is something I don't know, as I don't know the version the original drivers were(atiumdag 8.?).

Here is an example picture of GPU-Z. If you look at the driver version you can see it has Catalyst 11.4 in it. If you follow my link & check yours it should have Catalyst 11.5 if it installed correctly.

Could you have GPU-Z screenshots posted so we can see them? Also has anyone been messing with the video BIOS at all? Example: Radeon BIOS editor. If so then I really hope the original BIOS was backed up!

Ok, since these types of issues are so new you have a couple options to figure it out or not.

    1) Is your notebook plugged in? Also in CCC what is your Power settings on?

2)Run 3DMark Vantage on your notebook and post a screenshot of it. If it looks fine then you can always ignore it

    3) You can try to do a system restore to a previous date of when you were messing with the drivers/OCing etc & see what it shows.

    4) Recovery & see if it's back to normal.

Well, I got it to work. Since it's the first time I used an ATI card, I thought that the hotfix was like Nvidia's 260.1X. Something like a complete driver by itself with mini fixes, but it was just a fix patch. >.>

So, anyway, I installed the 11.5 drivers then the hotfix and it works now.

If you are actually running on your ATI, that score is pathetic :(

I'd help if I could, I would give you some random advice but if you are actually running your ATI card in 3dmark and got that result, something must be wrong.

I'm trying to help but I don't have the DV6 in my hands, so feel free to disregard my comments

3DMark 2011 Performance (11.5b drivers as futureperfect posted on page 1), 2630QM not OC

    Stock (725/800): P1597 Result

    OC (860/1030): P1877 Result

Not bad. Brings it up to being comparable to a stock 460M.

If you're referring to this that you linked to a few posts back, then no.

You used a version of the program that's 5 years old (and therefore less demanding). I'll try benching mine in 3DMark06 to see what your score should be.

edit: if you look at the graph of similar systems, most are in the 12,000 range while you're all the way at 2,000. That right there should tell you something's wrong.

your 3dmark11 scores are about well within range.

mine is 1599 with stock clocks

    alienware m14x is 1370, 2011 mpb 15 with 6750m is about 1350. gtx460m gets about 1700.

My dv6tqe scores about the same at stock. I just installed 11.5b over the HP OEM drivers (FEB 11) last night. Big jump in both 3DMark 11 and Vantage. No errors during install either! Everything works!

Overclocking to 825/950 gets me Vantage ~P8150 and 3DMark 11 ~P1800. I'll post my snips when I return home tonight. OC'd with the HP OEM, I hit ~P7300 and ~P1700.

~825/950 is about the max on my 6770M. It's also stable in New Vegas for over an hour. Temps hit 75c as per Afterburner. I tried 850/1000, but it locks up in Vantage during the CPU test?? Why not during GPU tests??

Hey guys, heres whats going on with my dv7tqe.

    | i7-2820 | 8GB | 640GB 72K | 900P | 6770M 1GB w/11.5b OC'ed @ 940/975 V1.055 scored P8847 in 3d mark vantage.

Currently, everything is stable, my OC'ed temps idle are ~35/40c, load is ~60/65c thanks to my notebook cooler, that does an awesome job surprisingly, i rarely hit above 70c, which makes OC'ing all the better.

I'm just curious how scy1192 got his memory clock @ 1030 stable

And yes, not bad at all sir :p

Next up ill be posting 3dmark11, and maybe PCmark.

And just curious, should i post a thumbnail link to the screenshot next time to reduce post size....or it really doesn't matter? thx

    **Update**
Ran 3dmark11, Scored P1892.... what i'm kinda confused about is why 3dmark11 is saying Intel HD Gfx is the GPU used for the tests and not my 6770m....Is this normal? Check the screenshot below please. Thanks in advance for any info or help.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it's completely stable, I haven't thoroughly tested it, but it hasn't crashed at all and I don't see any artifacts. I originally overclocked on 1062mV but I noticed that increasing the voltage didn't help at all, so it's fine at 1050mV right now. edit: nevermind, unstable at 1050.

Honestly though I'd prefer my core clock to be higher because overclocking the memory doesn't offer much of an increase at all.

I have the same issue with 3DMark only picking up the intel GFX. 3D performance still works. By searching results, it looks like others experience the same.

Hey guys, hopefully you can help me.

I can't seem to update my drivers to 11.5, let alone the 11.5b hotfix.
I've done the minimal system install, and everything seems a bit faster.

I updated my video drivers via windows update which are currently listed as:

    igdumd64 8.830.6.2000 / Win7 64 (Mobile intel)
    atiumdag 8.830.6.2000 / Win7 64 (Ati)

My 3dmark vantage score is P6089
My 3dmark11 is P1488 but I get a warning that my physics score is low (3459)

This is all stock, I'm not OC'ing.

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz and running the 6770M 2G

When I go to the ATI site, it directs me to "Catalyst Software Suite 930 KB 11.5 5/9/2011 Download"

I downloaded up for some reason it won't install "graphics card not supported".

I ended up using the individual download option and installed that, but it seems that it just updated my CCC?

Hopefully this is USER ERROR on my part.

    Thanks

The download from AMD/ATI's site wont work since HP used there own drivers to allow the switchable gfx to work properly. After a couple hours and research when i tried to update my drivers, i found a solution that worked for me, it should also work for you.

Check out this link and download the " MobilityMod Windows 7/Vista"
After installing 11.5a, you can then install the 11.5b hotfix.

It gave me a little performance boost, and also the ability to overclock more along with being more stable then the stock drivers provided, and having the latest drivers installed is always better in my book. GL

p.s. Don't uninstall your current stock drivers! Install the 11.5a over stock, then the 11.5b over the 11.5a.

    Thanks for the info IceBlu.

Last night, I installed 11.5b without installing 11.5a first. I noticed performance playing Witcher 2 isn't that great. So I'm going to try and install 11.5a, and then re-install 11.5b.

np man, just make sure when you do it, do everything from the beginning. Because your going to have to reinstall your stock--> then 11.5a--> then 11.5b.

I'm not sure if you can just uninstall the 11.5b and leave the stock, so just make sure you do each install properly i.e. restart after each driver install ect.

Ok, now i have a question for everyone here....
Please try to explain this to me...because for the life of me i can't seem to understand this at all...

To start off, im using ATItool to get an easy FPS reading, GPU-Z to monitor my senors, Speedfan for my temperatures, and Sapphire TRIXX for overclocking. I currently have the 11.5b hotfix, and all my other drivers are currently up-to date.

First off, when i boot up windows, and open GPU-Z, it says...
    GPU Clock: 725 MHz-----> Memory: 800 MHz
    Default Clock: 100 MHz--> Memory: 81 MHz

So i open ATItool, pop open the 3D View, and get a whopping Avg. of 130 FPS... which is highly unexceptional for this card which leads me to GPU-Z. While ATItool was running i also had GPU-z open on the sensors tab, and usually when the GPU is under more load the Clocks will change higher accordingly, along with the temp. increasing, but not in my case.

    (Running ATItool, no TRIXX applied)
    GPU-Z Senors
    ____________
    GPU Core Clock: 100MHz
    GPU Memory Clock: 81MHz
Temp went from 35c to 36c
    FPS: 130

**Now comes the part where I'm lost...keep in mind i have GPU-Z, ATItool, Speed Fan open.**

So i start Sapphire TRIXX, I have my first profile set to the cards default Clocks 725/800, all i do is click apply, then re-open the 3D View on ATItool and now i get an avg. of 750 FPS, which seems correct for the stock clocks. Now in the back of my head im thinking about a few select people that were getting poor performance with there 6770M, when they shouldn't have, i just don't know if what is happening to me applies to them also, or i just have bad luck.

    (Applied stock clocks w/TRIXX @ 725/800 , Running ATItool)
    GPU-Z Senors
    ____________
    GPU Core Clock: 725MHz
    GPU Memory Clock: 216MHz
Temp went from 34c to 55c
    FPS: 750

What i can't figure out is why i would need to do anything at all for the stock clocks to work correctly. I literally always have to go to Sapphire TRIXX, and apply my first profile to get my clocks to perform correctly over 100/81 MHz's.

And even when i do re-apply the stock Clocks, GPU-Z doesn't even read the Memory clock correctly, it doesn't go over 216MHz, but the Core clock always reads correctly @ 725MHz, even when overclocking. Shouldn't the memory clock be reading 800MHz too, and not just 216MHz?

I don't know if it's a bug or what, but I've been racking my brain over this since i realized it was happening, because I've just been overclocking every time i start windows because i game often, then just re-apply the default clocks when im done or switch to the Intel HD Gfx.

Any Ideas guys? I'd greatly appreciate it, and as always, thanks in advance for any help. Cheers

just wanna clear something with you: if you install 11.5a and then 11.5b, can you still switch graphics manually or is it dynamic? thanks!

You still have the ability to use " Configure Switchable Graphics" option. So your able to Switch from Intel to ATI as needed for whatever reason inside of CCC. Hope that answers your question.

    Cheers!

I'll second that! My first DV6 had it and it worked fine. The DV6 I got June 1st not only had no manual option, it just plain didn't WORK--it never switched to the Radeon. I sent it back to HP for refund.
