    Hi All,

As a future owner of such a powerful machine, i am immensely curious about what frame rates that these machines can achieve.

I would do these tests myself but alas, my system doesn't ship out until April 15th. I know there are many gamers crawling around on these forums, and a thread like this could be a deal maker in their books.

The tests that follow are done by a very generous community, willing to share their vast knowledge.

+Rep if this helps, and don't forget to +Rep the testers too!

Also can you list the following:

    Code:
    Game:
    Model:
    Processor:
    GPU:
    RAM:
    Internet Type:
    Settings:
    Resolution:
    Max FPS:
    Min FPS:

You are not limited to the two games that i listed. Any game that would give us a good idea of how powerful the machine is would be fine.

This would be really helpful to a lot of gamers looking into a cheaper alternative. Thanks in advance.

    Game: Crysis 2
    Model: DV7t QE
    Processor: 2630qm
    GPU: 6770m overclocked 850/950
    RAM: 8GB

    On 1600x900:
    High settings: 30s
    Med settings: 40s
    Low settings: 50s
    On 1366x768:
    High settings: 40s
    Med settings: 50s
    Low settings: 60s

I had Fraps running(as well as other useless programs running in tray now that I look at it) as overlay so that could have caused some performance decrease.

Temps got in mid 80s when I was on high settings for 1600x900 and went down from there. And 5 min after leaving game it is back down to 50.

I'll check for you when I get home from work today, prob like 5 fps or so. I played it before I overclocked but didnt look at the fps. It played good on low and while its low, the game still looks amazing in my opinion.

How much of a difference is there between the 1600x900 and the 1366x768 for gaming. Also, how is the battery life with the 6 cell when gaming? The screen is the once thing holding me back from getting this.

Actually, having a smaller screen will preserve your battery life, and typically run a higher FPS count than having a screen that forces you to play in 1600x900, as you can see from the Crysis 2 tests. In a sense, this system is more optimal for a long term and fluid gaming experience. (only because the higher end machines from HP typically have the same specifications.)

Its a matter of opinion but, you can lower the resolution of the 1600x900 panel for games but you can't increase the resolution of the 1366x768 panel.
There is no way I could handle using 1366x768 for things other than gaming.

Haha well i don't have the same problem as you because this screen is an upgrade for me. To each their own eh? I'm thinking ill get spoiled enough with higher resolutions later on but for now i'm very happy with it.

And frankly, i'll only be using it for gaming/ simulations in college b/c i'm an going into engineering.

Not scientific by any means, but you get the general idea!

The DV7t and especially the DV6t will have no issues playing any of these games maxed out at their native resolutions. I've been running them all through my 32" 1080P TV.

Do you think the 6770m could run Far Cry 2 on ultra at 720p?

All these benchmarks and there are still the "Can this run XYZ?" type questions. Mindboggling. :p

The 6770M GPU and base i7-2630QM CPU runs Crysis 2 in the 40FPS range on High at native resolution. It is going to play whatever game you have a question about perfectly fine.

I play around a lot with SoundSpectrum's G-Force because I enjoy writing the configs that generate the images ... and the funny thing is, the Intel Graphics works better than the 6770M, especially when I add fraps (recording) into the mix. I have tried PlayClaw, but always work my way back to Fraps.

This program has been around forever, and although it keeps evolving to make use of hardware innovations, it was written at a time when GPU state was pretty immature. The images are in no way as complex as what the current generation of video games have to offer, but interesting all the same.

For my purposes, the evenly spacing of frames over a period (a second) is MORE important than strictly FPS. I am happy with 29.97 fps as long as the fluidity of the motion remaining very high and evenly distributed during the recording process.
