well, i guess the crashing and audio loops are a Realtek issue after all. after reinstalling SONY drivers (Catalyst 11.6), i uninstalled Realtek high-definition audio drivers and rebooted. Windows installed its own drivers (Microsoft's generic HD audio drivers) and voila, i haven't had a single crash in Battlefield 3 after playing for hours. i'm using my old overclock/overvolt of 735mHz core/933MHz memory/904mV voltage. i'll just stick with Microsoft's drivers then.

Nah.. the result is not very good. The sticky clock is there so i don't care if the performance went up. :(

    Back to Leshcat 12.2 UP5.

But according to this site, 8.97 18 April is at the top performance. I don't do overvolting, so I might try this one.

8.97 April 18 suffered from sticky Idle clocks just like Cat 12.4.. u might need to activate unofficial overclocking in MSI Afterburner and change the clocks manually.

there were no sticky clocks in 12.1.

then they screwed it up in 12.3, and still are screwing it up with the latest 12.4 4/18 beta.
however, desktop 2d performance improved a little bit with 4/18 beta.
but still not as good as 12.1 catalyst.

Never posted on these forums before but figured I'd sign up to thank Silas for his many, many informative posts (+rep!), and to post what I've done with thanks to this thread.

Was facing numerous overheating issues, laptop was idling at around 75C, and that was with a giant fan next to it lol. When stressed it would hit over 90. GPU was around 75 too, and pushing 80-85 when gaming.

So today I did a complete disassembly, cleaned everything out and reapplied thermal paste (Just off-brand tbh, will buy AS5 next time..) Then I installed the 8.95 AMD drivers (I had no idea it made such a huge difference until today when I read this thread - I've been using stock!)

Now CPU's idling at 45-50, pushing 65-70 when stressed, and GPU doesn't go above 60-62.

3DVantage score was 7052 after everything was finished: [IMG]

    Temps atm: [IMG]

So yeah, thanks everyone, my PC's amazing once again. Didn't think I'd see such a huge improvement today.

Nice job Sovereign! I really want to disassemble mine but it seems too difficult to get all the way to the CPU. I think a month before the 1 year manufacturer warranty runs out i'm going to give HP a call and (hopefully) force them to repaste and re-check everything.

So I'm just a little confused with all these drivers. Can stock AMD mobility drivers be used? Can you still switch graphics cards with them, or do you need leshcat's drivers to do that?

You must install stock AMD mobility driver over HP driver or Leshcat driver else the graphic wont work.

So i'm having a little bit of trouble with Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition, hoping someone can help. I can get it to recognize and use the 6770m when the video card is in dynamic mode and I set all the parts of the program to high performance mode. However, when in fixed mode, even when it is set to the high performance card(6770m) it does not use it, as it can't handle medium which it handles fine when I get it working in dynamic

@MSGuzy I'm sorry I have no idea how to help you ><

Also, does anyone with Diablo3 here face extreme FPS Stuttering? I do. And the only way I can fix it is by locking the FPS while recording with FRAPS.

I have an ATI 6770M. About to update the Intel SATA controller as it seems the consensus on the Diablo forums is that it's an issue with the on-the-fly asset loading which causes HDD to spike. Will see what happens I guess...

Just wondering if anyone else here is facing similar issues.

I was using AMD 12.2 beta drivers up until now.. but decided it was high time for an upgrade..

Big mistake.. 12.6 installation failed big time and I'm not sure how/where.
FPS output was HALF of what the Intel GPU output is!!

MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z both said activity was normal though.
CCC and SG functions both appeared fine, too.

It could be that beta 12.6 wasn't ready for my card; but.. meh.. idk.

HP hasn't released a new driver package in several months.. never used Leshcat but I hope they can at least get things working again

Actually 12.6 suffered from sticky idle clock problem just like 12.4.. but unlike 12.4, you can simply fix it using MSI Afterburner. Just overclock/downclock/reset your card in Afterburner. :D

Anyone having problems with Star Wars: The Old Republic? Mine launches, but the screen is black and I can only see my mouse. I know I can click on things because I hear the noise the game makes when you click on something in the menu, but my screen is still black.

If you want stable, the most reliable, install leshcat's 12.2
If you want just a little bit higher fps (about 1 fps depending on game) use the newest, although it is quite buggy.
For myself and thanks to SilasDG I would recommend official 8.95.5 drivers. He and I had both tested the most common drivers, including leshcat's, official, HP's preinstalled. The best performance and reliability 8.95.5 took the first place (for 6770m).

The problem must be related to old drivers uninstallation. Please refer to this guide, how to remove the old drivers completely:

Can you by chance link me to them, the search is broken and I'm not sure if the one's I'm looking at are right. I have the 7690m XT and a couple games have been choppy for me for some reason (L4D2 and SC2).

    Thanks.

    *edit*

Are these ones correct (according to comments they are)? http://drivers.leshcatlabs.org/2012/03/22/catalyst-12-2-unifl-up5-for-switchable-graphics/

Also, should I install this over the hp drivers or should I install them by themselves.

    Thanks again.

If I understood correctly, what you meant to say, then yes, those ones are good enough too.

For leshcats drivers you don't need to install any other drivers (neither the driver provided by HP).

For official AMD drivers you need to install HP's drivers first and on top of them official AMD driver (i.e. 8.95.5). It is because official AMD driver doesn't have support for Intel HD graphics, which won't allow you to use both of them. As for leshcat's, it has already both drivers integrated (intel+AMD).

It might work, never tried, but I'm not sure if the performance would change (except for Intel HD graphics, as leshcat's driver is using newer Intel driver than driver which is provided by HP). It wouldn't take long to uninstall the old ones (12.2 up5) and install HP's+8.95.5 :)

    In conclusion, my opinion:
Use AMD's 8.95.5 for the best performance and stability (cons: Intel HD graphics is quite old, as you have to install HP's drivers first)
Use leshcat's 12.2 Up5 for reasonable performance and stability (cons: a little bit slower than AMD's 8.95.5, although Intel's driver is newer [Intel's graphics performance wasn't tested, it might be even worse than older one])
Use the newest AMD's or leshcat's drivers for the theoretical performance (better results in 3d mark vantage, etc, although it will cause problems like BSoD, freezes, etc)
Use HP's official drivers if you are hipster or want to sell the laptop "as in new condition" :D

I installed HP driver and then AMD's 8.95.5 driver on top of that but my question is that device manager (and cpu-z) both show that it is a AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series card, I have a 7690M XT card though. Is that normal?

    Thanks.

Hy everybody. I have an Hp dv7 6189 sl with 2 gigabyte DDR5 ram. I have been strugglin to play skyrim but I just get low fps and graphic issues, no matter how I set the options and .ini files of the game itself. Can anybody suggest a good driver version for my GPU (be it offical AMB or Leshcat's, don't care) and a good graphic setting setup? I am LOST!!

ALSO, on a side note, I noticed my GPU runs at about 46 degrees while IDLE, and swiftly rises to around 80 degrees after 15 minutes of intense usage (and probably would keep slowly rising onward). Should I worry? The temperature looks too high to me...

Are u using Fixed switching or Dynamic switching? Leshcat 12.2 UnifL UP5 is the best driver i've used so far. Catalyst 12.3 and 12.4 suffered from sticky clock problem so better avoid them. Make sure u patched your Skyrim at least till version 1.4.

Non necessarily while gaming, also while idle. When it happens nothing responds anymore and I'm forced to switch off my laptop -.- Does anybody have an idea of what's happening?

Download Yad's latest YUC 2.1.6.0 » Yad's UnifL Cleaner Section and use it to remove your current driver.

Download Catalyst 12.2 UnifL UP5 for Switchable Graphics and tick HP Patch, HP Media Addition and use 2559 Intel driver. Install like normal.

@ xAcid9 I'll try your suggestions, thank you... I have switched drivers like 20 times in the last 2 weeks, not sure my notebook is appreciating..
