I'm probably going buy and HP laptop soon, the HDX 16" DUN DUN DUN...

So therefore, I was wondering how the gaming is on your sexy HP. Not graphically wise or fps and such, but temp wise. For instance, how long do you get to game for before things get too hot or do you manage to keep things at decent temps for a full day worth of gaming :D

Personally I don't play too intensive games, mostly world of warcraft. Nothing hardcore like crysis and stuff. So i'd imagine i'd get some decent gaming hours as long as i keep things cool  haha by getting a zalaman pc cooling pad and if i decided to undervolt.

I regularly have lengthy online gaming stints on my dv5 9600m gt. I have the back of my laptop propped up and when temps get high I keep going.

85 degrees is pretty much the peak. It may pop over this threshold now and then but not often. My laptop has stood up to this very regular gaming for over 3 months now.

I haven't gamed on it without the cooler, but on a Zalman NC2000 the 9600 GT in my HDX16, heavily overclocked, hasn't passed 60C.

sweet deal, does the Zalman NC2000 cover most of the vents beneath? What's your cpu temp at when gaming?

    40's

I guess I should just turn on some crysis for 20 minutes w/o the cooler and see how it goes, don't wanna burn the poor table XD

don't forget to have a fire extinguisher on standby lol. That crazy though, what settings do you get on crysis with that massive resolution of yours. If I get my HDX 16 I'm going with the 1366x768 :p

    oh I can't run it at 1080p lol, 1366 x 768 works ok with medium/high settings

    After a bit of crysis:

On Zalman: CPU high 56C, GPU high 63C. CPU has already cooled to 34C as I type, GPU at 50C.

Without the Zalman: CPU high 71C, GPU high 75C

My lappy's probably angry at me, never been exposed to those temps

Oh sweet, that's the same CPU id be getting if I went with the HP I been looking at. I was actually reading up about the P8400 in the forums and it seems that there were a few problems with RMclock because it doesn't read half multipliers and some of the numbers weren't corresponding or something? I'll have to read it again but sounds like you were successful. What were your voltages for each multiplier after you undervolted? If you wouldn't mind posting em :p along with how many degrees you shaved off your cpu. I'm just curious so I have an idea

    Thanks

No RM Clock does not recognize the half multipliers...But I have had no issues with it using the full. Here is my results and tests when I did it. For record I did this with the laptop plugged in and sitting flat on a wood surface. That way I got the worst case scenario.

    Initial Stress test 9/27/08 CPU 0 - 72 C
    CPU 1 – 66 C

Second test 8x multiplier lowered to 1.0750v
    CPU 0 – 65 C
    CPU 1 – 60 C
    GPU – 62 C
Third test 8x multiplier lowered to 1.0500v
    CPU 0 – 70C
    CPU 1 – 64C
    GPU – 71C
    4th test 8x multiplier lowered to 1.0250v
    CPU 0 – 69 C
    CPU 1 – 60 C
    GPU – 70 C
    5th test 8x multiplier lowered to 1.0000v
    CPU 0 –68C
    CPU 1 –61C
    GPU –71C
    6th test 8x multiplier lowered to 0.9750v
    CPU 0 – 65C
    CPU 1 – 60C
    GPU – 70C

    7th test 8x multiplier lowered to 0.9500v
    CPU 0 – 65C
    CPU 1 – 60C
    GPU – 71C
    8th test 8x multiplier lowered to 0.9250v
    CPU 0 – 65C
    CPU 1 – 60C
    GPU – 72C
    9th test 8x multiplier lowered to 0.9000v - CRASHED
    CPU 0 – C
    CPU 1 – C
    GPU – C
10th test 8x multiplier set to 0.9500 and running for 3 hours.
    CPU 0 – 65C
    CPU 1 – 60C
    GPU – 71C

So my lowest multipler is 6 and the highest is 8. The 6X is factory set at .9000 and I got the highest down to .9500 stable.
I know a couple of times it doesnt look like the numbers really dropped much, but I tried to keep the test the same throughout the day. Ambient room temperature and the surface underneath it heating up throught the day probably didn't help but I have been running it undervolted for 4 months with no issues. And RMClock doesn't recognize the CPU info, nor all the stepping and whatnot...so its not able to be utilized to its full feature, however its the only thing Ive found on here.

    Hope this helps.

How do you people get those low temperatures?, My Quadro FX770 (9600M GT DDR3) in Hp 8530w is constantly 88C while gaming. I tried using the Zalman NC1000, but nothing happened, exactly the same temperatures. My Cpu reaches 72-78C while gaming, when it is stressed without gpu 62C.

I have a c500 that i play ut2003 on for a couple hour's at a time online and i have never had a problem with temp's.So i could imagine a newer laptop should run much cooler than mine..............
