I'm a bit confused as to how the graphics drivers work on my DV6-60xx with the 6770m. To put my question simply, from a clean, driverless install of windows, what would be the best method to installing the graphics drivers and getting them current?
Now for some more detail:
1. One thing I'm confused on is whether the AMD Catalyst Control Center is part of the driver for the actual card or if it is a standalone program. Does the version of CCC effect gaming performance?
2. The next thing is, once I have the graphics driver installed, is there a difference between going straight to the most current driver or installing each driver as they where released? To go along with this, should I install the AMD drivers or the HP ones?
3. Thirdly, I have heard about modified / aftermarket drivers being produced. What would be the benefit of using these over HP's or AMD's? Any links to some would be helpful.
4. And lastly, how do I update my Intel graphics driver (if it even needs it) without messing up the AMD driver?
Sorry for the probably nooby questions. Posting links to things to read is great because I enjoy reading about that stuff, just don't post a link to a 70 page thread and expect me to read the whole thing. Thanks for any help!

There are 2 methods to install graphic driver for DV6t.
1. Download and install the latest HP AMD graphic driver from your model support page or you can get it here. This next step is optional, if you want to use the latest driver from AMD, head to Videocards - AMD - ATI Drivers Section - Guru3D.com Forums to find the latest AMD Mobility driver. Usually posted by asder00.
2. Go to leshcat blog IT Tips & Tricks and download the latest switchable driver by leshcat. You don't need to install HP driver with this. Usually his driver use the latest version of Intel HD graphic too. -
For step two i have found DNA drivers to be stable. I have not tested leshcats though.

Thanks xAcid9, that answered what I was wondering most. Dr. Bass, what is different with the DNA drivers over the amd ones?
-
DNA drivers and its ilk are more tuned for performance and get fixes out faster.

Yes. I had the intel driver already installed.

first installing the HP-AMD driver... system run fine, without any problem except for out of date driver
then i download catalyst 12.1 official beta from the forum specified, install, success, restart
now ccc refuses to run no matter what, driver is doing fine, but ccc just wont start, no error report, no nothing
I have .net framework 4 extended installed, tried reinstall also, not work
I haven't tried the one from leshcat yet
just dont know how to update these driver anymore -
^ try this.. find where u extracted the AMD driver, then go into ..\Packages\Apps\CCC2\Core-Static\ and right click on ccc-core-static.msi. then select repair/install.
-
figured it out hehe
I left out CCC when installing HP's package then i installed CCC from AMD. So no overwriting this time
Working perfectly fine
Thanks by the way -
I also have DNA drivers, and they run perfectly fine for me, but also I have not done any official testing or anything.

i have a question for you guys. can you change the GPU core voltage when using an AMD driver newer than 11.9 with any overclocking utility (MSI Afterburner, Sapphire TRiXX, etc.)?

! b u m p !
-
You can't, 11.9 is the last version u can mod the voltage with Trixx.
