    FYI... I have a DV7-3080us

    Maybe I'm an idiot for not noticing this sooner... but, if you look at the plastic grille that covers the fan exhaust on the left rear corner - half of the metal cooling fins are covered over by the plastic grille... so I took a needle nose pliers and broke out the plastic grille and the CPU temperature dropped 20 degrees at idle and now the fan hardly runs even when the CPU is working hard.

    Wish I would have done this 3 years ago!

    I don't know why they put that grille on there that covers up half the cooling fins, but the fix to the problem is very easy.

    They probably have it there so that some shmuck doesn't put his or hands on the metal grill and burn themselves.
