I can't seem to get my Lightscribe drive to work when burning an image. I looked for some pre-installed software but after going through the list on the Lightscribe page, I'm not finding that any is on my DV9700T. I downloaded the Lightscribe Template Labeler program, created a quick graphic for a test and all the drive does is click and nothing happens. The light on the drive flashes green like it's doing something but it's not.
I couldn't even get the Lightscribe disk out and then the computer froze. When I tried to reboot it, nothing happened but a black screen. I tried several times before I finally had to take the power cord out and plug it back in just to get the laptop to come back on. Fun stuff.
Anyway, I burned my recovery disks no problem so I know the drive is working. I've got a Lightscribe drive on my desktop and it came with Sonic Record Now. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...at least I hope it's something I'm doing wrong so I don't have to send this thing back.

Have you updated the lightscribe software? Go to the website and download the latest firmware
Im a little confused, are you trying to burn something into a disk or burn a LS label into THE disk?
EDIT: Okay sorry i re-read what you said again. Download this http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadsection/Windows/index.aspx?id=810
If that doesnt work then try a different program like Surething 4SE or Nero. HP should have included a built in LS program aswell -
Yes, Update the system software.
Infact when I tried to burn my first lightscribe didk. The template program responded with a message telling me My LS system software was out of date and I needed to update in order to run the program. -
The LSS updates also reduces label burn times and improves compatibility with drives and disk.

Solved! Thanks for the link Flipfire. The update is what did the trick. I had downloaded the basic and the template labeler from the Lightscribe site but not the updated system software.
I still can't find anything pre-loaded for DVD burning like my HP desktop's Sonic Record Now but this will do nicely. I was really wanting to test the DV9700T Lightscribe drive out with my recovery disks based on everything you told me I should test when my laptop arrived in a previous thread.
Burning the image as we speak. -
They used to have SureThing 4 Lightscribe Edition on the LS website, they seem to have taken it down. Its a freeware and i can send it to you if you want. It is probably the best LS labeling program there is because its simple and user friendly while having all the extra features you need
Let me know how it turns out.. -
That would be great flipfire. I'll PM you my Email addy.
