I've just made a fresh installation of XP Pro. But now my quickplay has lost, and I originally ordered MCE from HP. How can I get QP back?

You shouldnt have deleted the quickplay partion if you kept the stock hd. I think the only way to get back quickplay is with the recovery DVD you had the option to create.

I deleted mine, but i had no use for it.

Did you leave 1GB(1028MB) of unallocated space when you reinstalled XP? You will need to do so if you didnt. If you did then the next step is to look for the HPQPDP and QPW folders in the SWSetup folder(hope you backed up this folder). Then run the setup for HPQPDP and if everything is OK with your partition it will install the directplay part of QP(the bootable part). Let the installation do its work and then after the system restarts run the setup for QPW which install the windows part for QP. Then install the quicklanch buttons software to enable the touch sensitive buttons.

If you do get an errors while installing the bootable part(HPQPDP) then try resisizing the partition(using gparted or any other third party application) and make sure the drive is not formatted.

I did backup the two folder, but then I received an error report when installin HPQPDP. And as you told me, I resized it with Norton Partition Magic 8, and still get the error.
This is what it looks like

You have to read this : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=82523

    Try to read Step 10.

    - Fix the above issue by deleting the D: 1028MB partition in the Control Panel->Admin Tools->Comp Mgmt->Disk Mgmt so that it appears to be UNALLOCATED SPACE. Redo step 23
    - After install of Quickplay, it needs to reboot. Instead, I continued installing step 11 and step 12 then rebooted.

I would try swissair's suggestion above. The only way I could get rid of that error was to start over again from scratch(deleting all partitions & reinstalling windows).

How many people actually use their quickplay partition is the real question. I feel its just a waste of space :p

    Blasphemer! ;)

I use it regularly! but even if I didn't, the buttons would be useless without the software.

    Report: successful
There are two missing steps in my procedure. First is that I did backup the SWSetup folder, but forgot to copy it back to C:\, I just run the Quickplay setup from my backup drive. Second, is that I misconceived UNALLOCATED and UNFORMATTED (or this is not the real issue).
I could not believe what an HP technician guide told me. He said that because I use a different version of Windows, the recovery discs won't extract Quickplay, and the only I can get quickplay back is to purchase a Quickplay DVD from HP for $75.

Though I have successfully install quickplay, I seriously run into the boot error, saying that I may need to check disk for viruses or alike. I followed the instuction on the postof Strawbs, but it did not resolved the problem. It also included some sub steps.
This is what it appeared after I login to Recovery Console
    [1] D:\Windows
    [2] C:\WIndows

On the second tries later on, it said that the boot.ini is not accessible for the DEL command.
    It's really a mess now.

which drive are you booting to? you should be able to format D: safely if you're booting to C:.

It reported that now the main drive is D, and the 1028MB drive is C. But the system root is C:\Windows, I think that's the problem. I boot to [1] C:\Windows.. and then type in the password when promted. Then I followed your instruction
    {
    DEL C:\boot.ini (instead, I use D:\boot.ini)
bootcfg /rebuild (I was asked to type in boot identifier and OS identifier)
    fixboot
    }

your 1028MB partition should not be visible to the boot manager! It should be "unallocated" - which means unformatted, unlabeled & invisible to windows explorer.

you need to delete the partition and leave it at that! do not format it, leave it as free space.

I think you need to start over with a clean install - leaving 1028mb of space free when you see the option to choose the drive and space to where you will install XP.

At this stage backup your stuff and start over. The QP installation will only succeed if you leave 1028MB unallocated space. It should not appear in explorer or be seen by Windows. The best option is to create the unallocated space during Windows installation and then installing quickplay.

Ok, I have already backup my entire HDD to an external harddrive (400GB Seagate, internal type in encloser). But the funny thing is that when booting up with norton ghost 10 CD, it can see my HDD, CD, flashdrive, but not my encloser-drive, where I store my image. Any recommendation for which solutions, please!

After a while, I got back to fix my quickplay partition. Funny that the partition is visible to user (X: in My Computer). I managed to fix the booting problem with XP recovery console (only use the command bootcfg /rebuild).
The only problem is that I cannot boot to quickplay without starting XP.

I have a DV6000CL which came with Vista Premium and I reinstalled windows with WinXP Pro and now I cannot instal the bootable quickplay or the one in windows. HP support was useless and told me that I HAD to reinstall vista which I know isnt true.

So does anyone know a method of restoring quickplay without puting vista back on?

    that's because it isn't "fixed".

it works in windows because it's a different application that is designed to work in windows.

The "hidden" partition should contain a seperate Quiclplay installation & that is what the computer boots to directly when you press the QP button instead of powering on.

If you can see the partition in my computer - it's not "Hidden" & is formatted.

So what did I miss? I delete all the partition on my HDD, and then allocated a major portion for WinXP (left 1028MB untouch). After XP installation, I copy the SWSetup to C:\ and run the quickplay installation (HPQPDP and then QPW), then in MY COMPUTER appeared an X:\

I ran into the booting trouble but managed to fix it with XP recovery console with one line only (bootcfg /rebuild). I think this is the problem because I changed the booting option.
