I sent my notebook in for repair on Monday...HP says I'll get it back tomorrow. Since my notebook issue was a big mystery, where can I get an explanation of what was wrong with it? Do I get a follow-up email?

I went on the online chat and after about fifteen minutes of their "speedy" service was told they could only look up US repairs...even though I had gotten to the chat via the Canadian links.

I haven't had to send a laptop to HP for repair for a while. They should send you a letter that gives a minimul explanation. The letter will have your case number. I highly encourage you to keep these letters. If you continue to have problems, keep the letters and it will make it easier to get a replacement from a case manager if necessary. I sent an old HP laptop in five times before I was directed to a case manager. I read a few of the HP repair explanations to him and he acknowledged the fact that the service I had recieved was unsat and I received a new one fairly quick. I've had two since then without ever having to call tech support. I know so many say they've had negative experiences with HP, I can only say I was polite and patient, yet firm in my complaints and ended up being treated extremely well. STAY PERSISTANT if your problem is not resolved.
