My DV9500's hard drive died last week, and I was forced to reinstall XP. Last time around, I followed Hackez & Mujjuman's amazing instructions and got everything up and running. I remember sound being a problem; I just don't remember what it was, or what the solution was.
This time, I was irritated at the thought of having to do an extra three or four hours of driver installs and updates after the installation, so I slipstreamed the final service pack 3 RC into the XP DVD, as well as all of the drivers that weren't .exe files or sound drivers. After install, I followed the order given in the 1.10 version of the driver pack for installing everything else.
Now I'm in the situation that many people have reported. I've got no sound, and one unknown, driverless PCI device in my device manager. I've tried uninstalling it, installing the drivers in the given order, installing the drivers in the wrong order, manually telling it what drivers to use... everything I can think of. With the exception of sound, the computer seems up and running happily, and I'd really prefer not to have to burn it and reinstall the OS.
I'm also pretty sure the QuickPlay buttons aren't working properly, but I have no idea if they would even work without the sound drivers installed.
Neither the UAA drivers nor the Realtek sound drivers threw any errors; nothing else on my computer seems to have a problem. If someone's got an idea what I can do, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Does this also use the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver? If that's the case, then these guys are having your same problem. You may want to follow these threads:

Hope you all figure it out. Maybe try to back everything up after you get it running this time around, so if it ever happens again, you'll be ready.
