This is an impressive little card.
I was just wondering what other people think of it.
I use my computer mainly for school, and watching movies, and it has no problem supporting dual monitors (a 22" as my primary, and the laptop as an extended desktop).
It handles Aero pretty well, the windows don't lag when I drag them around.
However, Flip 3D lag horribly and is unusable.
It seems to me that this is a driver issue, and not a hardware issue, since it can handle compiz-fusion effortlessly.
Does anyone else notice lagging with Aero? And if not, what drivers are you using? I've tried five or six from laptopvideo2go, but none seemed to make a difference.

Never had any lag issues either with running Aero or Flip3D. I am using driver version 156.73 from lv2go and pretty much the only driver which works perfectly The ones on HP.com are either horribly outdated or has issues with refreshing the screen especially during the UAC prompts. However, I haven't noticed any particular issues with any of the regular Vista features. One thing to make sure would be to check and see if powermizer is working properly. From what I have seen from other users(especially the 7150M) the aero issues were due to the GPU being a bit aggressive with power saving and running at 100MHz instead of dynamically increasing the clock speed based on load. Also check you temps, if it is over heating then most likely in order to avoid frying itself, it might be under clocking leading to the performance issues.
-
I have a cooling pad, so I know it isn't overheating.
I agree that powermizer is way too agressive. Is there anyway to make it back off? How do I check?
I really don't need it at all.
I'm going to give the 156.73s a try right now.
Thanks.

I just tried them.
I like using ones from LV2go because the control panel is much better, and I get 831MB available video memory, rather than 399 with the HP drivers. ( I know it doesn't really matter, but I still like it)
Powermizer is definately what is killing me.
-Tim -
To disable Powermizer you might have to use a utility like Riva tuner to set the GPU clocks. I don't know if this works since I haven't used it personally. GPU-Z or Nvidia Ntune software should be able to monitor the GPU clocks in real time. try either and see if Power mizer actually works before using rivatuner.
Unfortunately, Nvidia removed all Power mizer settings from the Control Panel for some odd reason, before with XP drivers they had the option to set the GPU clocks manually.
BTW, if you don't mind checking what temperatures are you observing with your Go 6150? Mine has been running hot for quite a while - idling around 75C and maxing out around 115C. I am just asking people around to see what the avg temps people are experiencing or whether mine is just a failing chip. -
I'm looking at ntune, and I'm seeing 62C for the GPU right now.
Powermizer is active. my card idles around 99mhz.
I watched a movie for about half-an-hour, my gpu was at 423mhz the whole time and the temp was steady at 72C -
It just really bugs me that I purchased a computer with Vista installed, and it can't seem to really handle Vista.
And I bought it nearly a year after it came out!
I really like flip3d. I think it is a very efficient way to browse through windows.
but it is so laggy compared to other computers I've used. -
What is supposed to be the normal temp of the GO 6150?
-
There really shouldnt be any lag with Flip3D and the 6150.I have been using mine for close to 2yrs now and honestly I cant really complain about Aero issues since it runs fine. Aero/Flip3D is not that hard on the GPU in any case. I cant really figure out why yours lag so much. Maybe a clean reinstall of Vista might help especially if you are using the stock HP version of Vista.
The cooler it runs, better for your system as a whole. From what I have seen the average temps seem to around 60C idle and maxing around 80 - 100C. -
How would I go about doing that?
I only have the recovery disks that I had to make. -
You will have to borrow/buy/download a Vista DVD and then you can either use the key from the bottom of your notebook or follow orev's reinstallation guide(link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228). Ofcourse keep a backup of your personal files and folders along with the SWSetup folder which contains all the default software and drivers. It would better to download newer driver versions but if you cant one online then you will still have the backup copy just in case.
-
By download, do you mean via the windows market place?
or something more shady likea torrent?
I read on that link that if I use the key on the bottom of my notebook, I will have to call Microsoft to activate it.
Will I have to lie about why I am using it? The guide made it seem that way. -
I think I may have the WAU folder on my computer.
When I search all folders including hidden, I find one called WAU_reg, and one called wauoobe.
Would one of these be it?
It seems to me like my best bet is to make a new partition, and do a fresh install of Vista in it. that way if it doesn't work, or if I see no improvment, I can just delete it.
Actually, now that I think about it more, I'm not going to bother with reinstalling Vista. I've already reinstalled Vista 3 times, and Ubuntu three times since I bought the laptop. I'm getting sick of it. I can live with a little lag. Everything else is just the way I like it. And hopefully HP will release new drivers.
I rememebr reading that new ones were released in 2008, back in January I think, for the GO 6150, and I know some notebooks with this gpu on HPs website have these newer drivers, but they seem to be incompatible with my notebook, even though it has the same card.

I installed Nvidia Ntune and it is giving me two different temps nForc and the GPU. The nForc is 63 at idle and the GPU 72.
Does the driver from LV2GO help lower the GPU temp or it just improve performance? Because right now I am using the latest on from the HP website. -
I cant seem to install 156.73 driver because i get error emessage saying that it is not found...so the file from lv2go is corrupted?
-
There are download links from digital reiver and Microsoft sells Vista DVD's without license for ~15 bucks.
Good luck. I havent had much luck with the newest driver for the Go 6150( 167.43). Like all other recent drivers, has issues with refreshing the screen especially during the UAC prompts. There is like a 10 sec lag before and after the UAC pops up.
Performance and usually bug fixes..less crashes. If you are using the default 98.15 I would definately recommend the 156.73. it has slightly improved Control Panel and overall offers a performance improvement over the stock driver which hasnt been updated since Vista was released back in Jan 07.
As in the download didnt work or the setup said that it couldnt find a compatible device. If it is the former then try downloading again and if it is the latter you will have to use the inf file included in a zip folder located in the installation folder. Extract the inf's to the installation folder and then run the setup. it should identify and install the driver correctly. -
I'm thinking I might purchase the 64-bit Vista disc from Microsoft.
I'm 99% sure this is possible, but just to double check, will I be able to activate the 64-bit version using the key on the bottom of my laptop? -
hmmm..
I try to order the Vista DVD from Microsoft, but when I select the 64-bit DVD, it asks for my product key,and when I type in the one on the bottom of my notebook, it tells me "We're sorry, the following error(s) have occurred:
No Offer Found".
What should I do? -
damn that 156.73 driver installation corrupted my vista i had to clean install vista over again last night.
-
Try to see if you can get hold of Windows anytime upgrade DVD. They are still available from sellers on Amazon. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesnt really offer an easy way for people to get hold of the media even if they have a valid license. They do offer Windows backup DVD but only for people who download the OS from WIndows marketplace.
Hmm..you should have just uninstalled the driver from safe mode. Usually failed driver installations can be fixed by removing the driver safe mode. -
I downloaded the driver and was not even able to install it since it said that it did not found the driver compatible with my hardware. I extracted the files in to a new folder and it did not work. So it might be corrupted or it just don't work with my system
