You REALLY don't want to know. I just tried with my Dell and all i can say is afterwards i spent 4 hours getting things back to normal.

Use the recovery discs you burnt to put the system back to default factory state. The recovery partition and recovery process depends on the stock windows installation to function. Dont expect them to work especially after a major change in the OS.

I just did the same with my Dell desktop. I pretty much just used the original XP disks that came with my system originally to format and reinstall XP.

Well, in that case your only option is to call HP and ask for a set of replacement restore discs for your system.

According to the HP online manuals, you should be pressing F11 at the boot screen with the HP logo.

The rest from there should be cakewalk provided that you have backed up your data and want to restore your computer back to factory settings.
