so after much kicking myself in the butt and after several months of not being able to pick out a laptop i think im going to say screw waiting for core 2 duo and just get the hp dv2000t. my most intensive cpu uses are using photoshop/illustrator/surfing net/ aim all at once so not much anyways :p heck i dont even know if i would benefit from dual core too much but im going to get it anyway but i cant decide on getting the 5400rpm or the 7200rpm at 100gb the price difference is about 85-90 dollars will i really see that kind of performance gain? ;[

That's the spirit. You would only want core 2 duo if you soooooooo desperate for Windows Vista. And you would have to pay about $500 for Vista anyways. Core Duo and Core 2 duo is not that much of a big jump.

Go with the 5400 RPM drive, I have a 4200 RPM and am happy with it's speed, for what you do on your PC i doubt you'd need a 7200 RPM.

Definatly get the 7200 rpm hd, I would say you could get a 7200 later down the road, but it would be a lot more expensive for a 100gig 7200rpm than 85-90 bucks.

just curious...cause i just ordered a dv2000t last night. there wasn't an option to upgrade the HDD to a one with 7200 RPM...all of the HDD options were 5400 RPM. Not that it matters to me i'm happy with a 5400.

And I also decided not to wait for merom...haha

you have to buy 7200rpm HDD from other sites, hp does not have that configuration option...

I use a program called RawShooter. It converts my Raw files, from my Canon d20. After converting it, it launches the program I specify, which, in my case is Photoshop.

Bottom line, I often have RawShooter (not a small program, as far as resources are concerned), Photoshop and either Picasa2 or PreClick Gold, all open and running at the same time.

I also at times open my e-mail program, virus program or whatever.

Bottom line is, the dv2000t doesn't skip a beat! Major difference from my old laptop, which was a 1.8 Ghz machine. It would chock when numerous program,s esp. Photoshop, were opened at the same time.

You'll really like this laptop! (probably any duo core machine, but being I have the dv2000t and am very satisfied with it, that's the one I'm talking about right now....)

    Good luck!
