Well, I just powered up my new R4000 today. I have 1x512MB stick in there. I have seen so much about what to get. I looked at Kingston and the specific R4000 memory is a lot more than most. Is there a known good 512MB memory that costs a lot less than $70?

    TIA,

    Dave

Crucial and Kingston PC2700 memory are your best bets, in that order of preference. PC3200 has been problematic.

Do you know if the Kingston ValueRam is OK? The stuff that they certify for the r4000 is a lot more money!

Probably, but maybe not. Someone else here said that Kingston "Value" series RAM isn't actually built by Kingston, so I'm a little skeptical of it but I'm probably being paranoid. I run Crucial/Micron PC2700 in my zv5000z.

Something I found while I was looking for ram for my L2005 through crucial's website, is the fact that they change the ram prices throughout the day. I was pricing the ram for my laptop this morning and a stick of 512 was 70 bucks, I came back this afternoon and they were asking 73 bucks. I'm not sure what the deal is but if you want to deal with crucial just check in on it until they lower to a price you find reasonable. Out of curiousity I priced your model's ram and found that they dropped it from 70 to 66 over the course of the day as well...

Thank you everyone. On the one hand, I hate to spend $66 when some is available for about $30, but there is value in getting it, installing it, and being done!
