Been looking for a decently priced notebook that i can take to college/ play games on. How does this one look?

    HP- dv5139us
    Turion 64 @ 2.0 ghz
    2048MB Ram
    120GB 4200RPM --slow, i know.
    Dvd RW w/ lightscribe
    15.4" WXGA w/ brightview
    ATI RadeonĀ® Xpress 200M IGP--the 128 dedicated variety.
    Remote control, blah blah blah.

    all for $1100 after rebates.

I realize that its not a graphics monster, but does it look good for the price?

Don't get upset, but this one is a pretty bad choice. In short, with Xpress 200M IGP you won't be able to get a playable framerate, especially at native resolution 1280x800. Secondly, a 5400rpm hard drive is a better choice. Thirdly, you won't need 2048mb ram, anyways it's cheaper to bu 256ram from HP and 1gig stick from i.e. newegg.com. last but not least, you've got ripped off )-:.

dv8000 is a little bit on a heavy side but believe me, you won't regret it. Btw, I understand you're entitled to a student discount (6% off).

i take issue with pkd's assertion that the 200m does not play at a "playable framerate". It is a more than fine graphics solution for most users. The hard drive on the slow side, but they could be worse things. Good processor, 2 gb of ram... this is a pretty decent computer. Is it a DTR, no, but i don't think that is what they are looking for. Also, 17 inch laptop in class? that is rediculous. its nice to be able to see the lecture around your screen, lol. I definatly see pkd's point that this is by no means a performance PC but it is nice for college and a great price. Also, go aftermarket with ram! its better aftermarket and its cheaper! its a no brainer. Good luck finding a solution that works well for you!
