    Hey everyone,
After quite a bit of researching, I finally have my heart set on the DV1000 due to its smaller size and entertainment portability. Although I can't afford a new one, I'm determined to find the best price. I met this lady through craigslist and brought her asking price down to $900. That's a little past my budget however the specs look really good:

    1.73ghz Centrino
    1gb DDR
    100gb hd
    DVD Burner
    Wifi
    Bluetooth

She'll also include a laptop bag as well as manuals, cds, and the wireless remote.
She also claims to have owned the laptop since September and has not registered it yet so there is still a 1-year warranty.
I was aiming for one with a little less to it and eventually add-on in the near future and I'll probably spend this much anyway.
Is this a good deal? I can't quite afford it yet but I could get a loan from my sister. Should I just bite the bullet on this one? Thanks.

    Can't go wrong with a price of $900 on a top-end machine.

that seems extremely cheap. make sure its a genuine sale...not stolen or something...1GB RAM alone costs 200-300 bucks these days...and note 100GB hard drives are atleast $150 by themselves. just my 2c....

If you need warranty help, you will need a copy of her purchase receipt. HP keeps track of the warranties for each machine based on when they shipped it to the retailer, not when it was purchased. So if the machine sat on the shelf for a while, their system will show an expired warranty even if you have owned the machine for less than a year.

When that happens, you are quilty until proven innocent or at least in warranty. The onus is on you to prove the purchase date. They are very rigid on this, even if you are on the road and have not access to a fax to send a copy of your purchase reciept.

    Beware.

Also be ready to spend a ton of time on the phone talking to India before you can get to a tech either in India or sometimes in the US.

All one needs to do to avoid this situation is to register with HP the day the laptop was bought. This will make it a lot easier for them to verify whether the warranty is expired or not.
