HP ENVY dv6-7214nr Notebook PC | HP® Official Store
I am looking for a replacement for my Dell XPS m1530.
I really like a 15" screen size, with HD resolutions. The m1530 has a 15" 1600 x 1050 screen. I know 16:10 screens have
gone the way of the dodo, but at least 1920 x 1080 isn't a step down in the number of pixels i am used to.
This HP ENVY looks good at $999 for Full HD, 15", 750 GB hybrid HD, 3rg gen core i7, gt650m graphics and 8gb of ram.
Is this a good deal? Are there other laptops at a similar price with similar specs? I can take downgrades on some specs,
just not screen size or resolution. 1600x900 might work, but i think 15" needs full HD.
Thanks for the help.

I just bought this notebook model and received it last week. As far as I can tell you, this is a good deal for these specs if you want an Envy dv6 machine. Having said that, if you are open to look at other notebooks, consider Lenovo Y580 which is similarly spec'd notebook. The reason I chose HP over Lenovo is I had to have the matte screen which BTW is gorgeous and really bright. Y580 comes with a glossy screen and I just did not like it much. Also, dv6 looks quiet sleek when compared to Y580.
But dv6 has a trackpad which is very close to be called horrible, and I have a thread opened on it. Currently this is my only big gripe and I hope there is some third party tool to fix this. Does anyone know if envy trackpad issues have a solution? -
Hmm... There is also this option from Lenovo.

i don't really care about the free simple touch. i could probably sell it for maybe $50, but probably less.
I could also get a small msata drive to put in the lenova for ~$60 (16gb or 32gb) to match that difference.
I guess i need to check them both out in a store, at least for the trackpad and keyboard differences. -
I do like the HP ENVY dv6 a lot, especially the 1920 x 1080 screen, but right now the competing Lenovo Y580 and Y500 have HP beat on price, frankly if I were in your shoes it'd be hard to justify the extra $200 it costs for the same specs even if the 1920 x 1080 matte screen
Good Deal for an HP ENVY dv6?
