    Good HP dv6000 battery stopped charging suddenly.

    Hello

    I have a hp dv6000 and a few months ago (april) i purchased a separate third party 12 cell battery. It's been perfect up till now and in the recent weeks was still holding something like a three hour charge. Two days ago, I was running off the battery and didn't notice that I was on low charge. The laptop ran out, shut off instead of falling asleep which has happened before so I wasn't worried

    I restarted the computer, plugged in and loaded the startup. Everything seemed fine except that the indicator said that the battery was charging and plugged in but the percentage was not going up or down. When I tried running off the battery alone, the laptop immediately shut off. I've checked the hp battery health status and it says that there is a defect with the battery which is hard for me to believe since it was working very well up to that point.

    I did notice that before the battery ran out that there was a system update available in the startup menu (along with the suspend button in windows vista) but when I loaded up the computer again, it didn't show, which makes me think that that had something to do with it.


    I've done a fair amount of searching and have already tried these:
    I've already tried reinstalling the control method battery
    I've frozen the battery,
    I've done the turn off, unplug, replug, turn on computer, turn off, put in battery, replug
    After the freeze, the charge went up to 46% but then fell back down again. Just now it was at 42%

    As another note, the battery light was on when the laptop was shut down indicating charging the battery. After the freeze though, it flickered to say not charging on shut down. But, when the computer was loaded up, the light became solid.

    I'm fairly certain there is nothing wrong with the adapter. Like I said, everything has been working up to this point. So I'm very much inclined to think that there is a problem with the computer recognizing the battery.

    Any thoughts? It would really be appreciated!

    It actually does sound like a defective battery. Is this an HP battery or an aftermarket battery? You could always see if your friends have DV6000 and borrow their chargers to see if there is something wrong with yours.
