Ckt City has DV6130US on sale for $899 after $250 in rebates ($100 instant rebate and $150 mail-in rebate).
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-P...61286/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
-CoreDuo T5200
-1GB RAM
-120GB hard disk drive
-Lightscribe DVD....
-webcam
-Intel graphics
-Intel wireless card
Seems like an excellent value compared to the DV6174CL I just picked up at Costco for $1149.
But after mulling it over some more, I still like the Costco model since it has the T5500 processor, 2GB of RAM, and GeForce video card ... plus the 6 month liberal return policy peace of mind. Plus I'm almost sure the Costco model will go on sale for about $100 less during Thanksgiving when I can get the difference back.
BTW, the closest street model to the Costco model is the DV6249US at $1299 on sale right now for..... $1149... same price as Costco.

Only difference I can see from the specs is that the "street model" has Intel video card vs. GeForce on the Costco model.
Thanks,

Hi All,
A word of warning about Circuit City rebates.
I was supposed to get a $50 rebate on my DV5030Z from Cirucit City. They reneiged on that rebate. They asked me to send them the original paperwork and then said my state was not in the rebate program even though it was one of only two states listed. Then said they would not reconsider unless I could send them the original paperwork, which I had already sent them.
The moral is unless Circuit City is giving you cash in hand be VERY cautous with their rebates!!! -
I'd like to add a warning.
DO NOT BUY A WARRANTY THROUGH CIRCUIT CITY.
They'll play ever loophole possible not to repair your system.
Just buy the warranty through HP after you buy your system from Circuit City. -

Are you too confusing Circuit City with Best Buy
Those two stories sound more like Best Buy than Circuit City.

While we are talking about rebates...
Try to look for rebates (do business with vendors) that don't require you to cut the upc out of the box....

I am looking at the HP DV6149US at Circuit City. I don't know a lot about computers and am confused about some things in the specs. Currently I will be just getting online just using wireless at home, at a friends, or a hotel. I would love to have wireless service with Verizon, but unfotunatley you can't get it or have a real slow connection in areas where I would be using it. So I want to wait til this gets better. I would love to be able to use the Internet when I go camping. It lists on the specs for this model that there is no PC card port. I thought this is what you needed to have to get service with Verizon. I tried talking to someone in customer service at Circuit City twice and could never get anyone that spoke English to where I could understand them. From what I understood them to say was that I would not be able to get on the internet at all without a PC card. I thought all notebooks made now allowed you to get on the internet using a router. I also thought that they came standard with the ability to get wireless from someone like Verizon.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -
LOL I was thinking the same thing. I had brought a warrenty from cc for a ipod and had no problem exchanging it for a new one when it started acting up. -
That's the first time I've heard that.... for that you're going to need a satellite hook-up. Cell phones if you're planing on accessing the net need a tower handy, and last time I checked while "camping" you're unlikely to have service and if you did the signal is likely to be very weak.
On Verizon and the above I would assume you're wanting to connect thru your cell phone to get on the net? Is that what you're talking about? If so you need to call CC back to confirm that they have the hardware to connect the two as a PC card may indeed be required for that. Be aware that the HP uses a Express Card slot which is differant than a PCMCIA slot.
PS: Most units now have built in wireless.. and yes that should be able to talk to your router via Verizon assuming there software package can "talk" to your built in wireless module and router, or be used at "Hot-Spots". Note that at "Hot-Spots" (businesses that offer free internet access for their customers) you will NOT be connecting thru your Verizon account but instead thru the Hot-Spot providers account.
PS: Since you don't know alot about computers if I was you I'd read thru this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=86901
