So major difference here is ? being shift + 6 rather than shift + /

How do you have the keyboard set under Win7... US Keyboard? If you hit shift + ' do you end up with É or ?

You can use this registry hack to rebind the \ as shift... I'm using it on my laptop until I get a US keyboard installed. Pretty good band-aid.

    RandyRants: SharpKeys 3.0

You can also buy a replacement US keyboard from the HP parts store for $114.

After reading this thread I decided to go to my local BestBuy (in Calgary, AB, Canada) and try to get a price match anyway. I have good news for those of you looking to get this laptop in Calgary because the BestBuy at Deerfoot Meadows will do price match to online stores with no hoops to jump through. I got a CSR called Vicki if you're interested. I first asked if they do price match to online stores and she said only if the online store has it in stock and will deliver. I then directed her to PC-Canada.com where the Envy 14-1050ca is on sale for 1433.99 + tax + s&h. She honored the price match and gave me 10% of the difference. They added the price of shipping though, which is only $12.00. So in the end, after recycling fee and 5% GST my total was CAD1508.84!! w00t!!

I took a whole bunch of pictures while I was unboxing so expect me to post those in the Owner's lounge very soon.

Actually, the first laptop I got was a dud in a way. It had that noisy fan issue...and by noisy I mean NOISY!! It sounded loud half the time and like a vacuum cleaner the other half of the time. The problem I noticed was when the CPU gets used (spikes to like 60%, etc) the fan would become very loud. Also, I dunno why but the CPU was constantly spiking even when I was idling. Anyway, went back to BB and got a replacement easily. This new one is perfect, no problems so far.

    Hurray for price match!

I still prefer having the US keyboard. I want this laptop to be perfect. Also, id like the Core i7 configuration.

yer i just hope my dad can get them to honor the price match when he goes toronto in a couple of weeks, out of interest how likely is it to get a lemon? Should my dad unbox it and let it run for an hour or so? I don't want to have to return it from the UK you see

I've been told that CTO will never be available for Canada from HP. Too small a market.

This is the same response as it is for a few other manufacturers, if I'm not mistaken. Dell and Sony are the two I know that do CTO in Canada.
