I've ordered a dv6000z customized from HP. It has:

    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-60(2.0GHz/1MB)
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
    256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    802.11a/b/g WLAN and Bluetooth
HP Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook
    12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I used the Academic Purchase Program discount and a $100 instant rebate. It came in at $1463.04 with tax.

Did I make a decent choice? Any opinions are welcome.

How has the AMD been? I ordered it before I checked out the forums here (though I had read Zaz's review of the dv6000z). Obviously the Intel is more popular, but is it noticeably better?

No, in real world applications the computational differences are unnoticeable. You will be pleased with your system.

rb89, what kind of task will you be doing on the dv6000z?

OrderED? As in past tense? A bit late for us to make any recommendations if you already ordered it!

In any case, the laptop is fine, although I would have recommended buying some things else where like the RAM and TV Tuner. You could have gotten them cheaper yourself.

A little bit of everything. Multimedia, some gaming, Photoshop, some 3D modeling, some web design, school work, etc.

dagamer34, you're right about the RAM, but that particular TV Tuner was actually cheaper than I could have found it elsewhere.

I recommend buying RAM from HP for AMD systems unless Crucial DDR2-667 SODIMMs happen to be a lot cheaper than what HP's charging, just because AMD CPUs are so picky about RAM. Holy... $70 each at Newegg! Well... we're still talking about a 2 figure number.

    Very nice config.

You've got a good configuration. As for the memory, had you tried to order only 512MB memory, the site wouldn't let you have anything more than Vista Basic. At least that's the way I remember it being when I was looking at ordering online. I think you've done well. Congratulations and enjoy.

I think that was the case with mine, too. I wanted over 512 MB anyway, and I hadn't considered buying it separately.

I did, however, pass on Office Student 2007 from HP because Newegg has it for a little over $100, and JourneyEd.com has Office Pro 2007 for $200.
