    I haven't decided what laptop I want yet but I saw this config for the dv9000t so I came here to see if anyone thinks its good for gaming only.

    Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    Display: 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
    Graphics Card: 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
    Memory: $50 off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
    Hard Drive: FREE Upgrade from 120GB 5400RPM to 160GB 5400RPM!!
    Primary CD/DVD Drive: FREE Upgrade - LightScribe DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    Network: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    Primary Battery: 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    Remember this is strictly for gaming only. Also, can anyone tell me if its worth the upgrade from 256MB graphics card to the 512MB graphics card?

    I don't know much about computers so I just played around and the price seemed to fit my budget.
    Thanks.

    I play EQ2 and I took the 512meg option. As well if you can afford it Id get a better CPU as that paticuallar one only has a 533mhz FSB as opposed to 667mhz for all the other ones that are faster. That 533mhz FSB will also limit you ram to the same speed instead of being at 667 for that too. You may be able to get more ram cheaper from www.newegg.com that you could from HP to try and save on some cash. The screen should be fine although I took the Ultra bright view option. A lot just depends on what youre willing to spend for the gaming machine. I belive back in Sept mine cost 1826 for what I have.

    512mb graphics is not worth it on this card. go for 256MB and get Core 2 Duo not Core Duo.
    overall the cofiguration is OK for current levels. I have one myself wth T5500 1.66Hz, 240GB (120x2) and 256MB graphics.
    Check with Costco to see if they have similar config, usually they have same configs for less and far better return policy (6 months) and warranty.

    Lol, thanks for the input but I have no clue what you just said about the CPU stuff. Can you explain to me in a less scientific way?

    Input from anyone else will be much apprieciated.

    I just check out the one at costco with these configs:

    Operating System:

    * Microsoft® Windows Vista Home Premium

    Processor & Memory:

    * Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83GHz)
    * 2MB L2 cache
    * 667MHz front side bus
    * 2GB DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 1024MB, shared)
    Drives:

    * 160GB (5,400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    * 8x DVD±RW drive with Double Layer Support
    Graphics & Video:

    * 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView widescreen display; 1440 x 900 native resolution
    * 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600 graphics

    It's about 30 dollars cheaper then my other config ( + shipping charges on costco)

    so which one will be better for gaming?

    FSB=front side bus. That is how fast information travels to and from the CPU. There is also nothing wrong with 512 on this card. I have it myself. The 667 mhz for ram speed is how fast thr memory handles its info. Still you might find 2gig of ram cheaper off www.newegg.com My system that I use for playing everquest 2 at almost max settings is,

    Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2 GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    Display: 17.0" UWXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
    Graphics Card: 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
    Memory: 2gig 667mhz
    Hard Drive: 100gig 7200rpm

    If you want this for gaming, I suggest getting the WSXGA lcd (it has higher resolution, very good for gaming). Get the 256MB version of the Geforce go 7600, as the 512MB is actually just the 256MB version with Turbo Cache. It's just a way to use system ram to emulate dedicated RAM. Not worth the extra cost.

    Also instead of getting the $50 off for the 2GB ram upgrade, get the cheapest they offer and buy the DDR2-667 ram from somewhere else. Zippy***mfly sells Kingston 2x1GB DDR2-667 for 2x$58=$116 with free three day fedex shipping. Then you can sell the RAM it came with for some extra cash.

    Also might want to think about getting two hard drives and use raid-0 for extra hard drive performance.

    And get a cooling pad for when you are gaming. It helps ventilate your laptop and helps reduce thermal wear on your components.

    Also remember to use fatwallet's cash back when buying from hp.com.

    The 7600 does not use turbocache. Look it up on Nvidias website. I have also tested that by only putting in 256megs of ram in my machine and everything still reports the card as being a 512 meg card.

    Thanks for your suggestion, would you recommend getting a better processor or is that one good enough?

    The one you got upped your FSB. There isnt a great deal of difference in speed between that one and the 2ghz. The only other difference is the 4meg cache.

    So thats the Intel Core 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache) right? Sorry I'm a newbie when it comes to these things, hope i'm not confusing you.

    I also decided that I will get the 17.0" WSXGA along with the 256MB NVIDIA Go 7600. Good decision?

    Thanks for everyones help and more suggestions on my decisions will be greatly apprecieated :)

    The 1.83ghz cpu will be fine. It has the 667fsb so your ram will be as well. The screen will look nice too. A lot of people choose it for the extra screen space since it has higher resolutions. I took the lower rez with the brighter screen myself. The 256meg card will be fine for gaming. I just personally chose the 512meg option. More ram on the card never hurts anything. LOL. In the end its all about what you want and what you want to do with it along with how much youre willing to spend.

    I agree about the CPU. The l2 cache won't matter too much. But I strongly suggest the 256MB version, because (besides the risk of the 512MB version using your system RAM) the video card is not powerful enough to utilize more than 256MB of memory ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=79820). Save the money for your next laptop.

    The 7600 go DOES NOT use system ram at all. ZERO NONE NOTTA. http://www.nvidia.com/object/go_7_series_techspecs.html And as for not being powerful enough to use the ram, benchmarks arent everything. But I can say from having used both the 256meg version as well as the 512meg version I can run EQ2 at higher graphic settings with the latter.

    Perhaps true, but I doubt it is worth the $150 upgrade. Better save that money so you can upgrade to a laptop a few years down the line a little sooner.

    512MB RAM is not worth $149. That is much better spent on a CPU or screen upgrade.

    agreed. faster CPU is far worth than a bit-fast graphics card

    Never said a faster CPU wasnt better than extra ram on a vid card. But me personally Id get both lol.
