So my HP Dv5t had to get sent it because it overheats and that causes it to bsod or causes fuzzy pixels to appear all over the screen. So I think its a graphics card problem.

So I called them, spent half an hour trying to diagnose the problem, and eventually they said to send it in for repairs. They told my that the average turn around time was 9 days, which means that it takes about 9 days for me to get it back after I send it out, this includes delivery times.

So I fill out the form etc and send out my laptop on a Monday. I have to drive to the nearest fedex location tho. On Fri. I call HP support to make sure they got the laptop. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS ALREADY ON ITS WAY BACK. Yea so that was a surprise and it just arrived today on Mon. So the turn around time for me was 7 days which I think is pretty good.

The laptop came back spotless. I have a bad habit of eating over my laptop occasionally so crumbs get in between the keys. After the repair, no more crumbs.

They repaired/replaced the system board and heatsink fan. So overall it was a pretty good repair job. I havent had enough to actually try it out to see if the problem was solved but their service was definitely above expectations.

Also, one question, the graphics card is mounted onto the system board right?

It's good to hear the good, as well as the bad, so thanks for posting!

The graphics card is usually soldered to the motherboard on almost all notebooks other than a few high-end gaming notebooks such as those from Clevo.

Glad to hear everything worked well. I had a good experience with HP recently, too. Hopefully, other people will have the same luck.

HP treats people in warranty very nicely. no worries there. you may want to extend your warranty if you havnt. having the graphic card fail early isnt a good sign.

Do you think its a defect? Because they claim to have repaired/replaced it. Idk which. But I havent had any problems and the fan seems a lot quieter now. Looks like they fixed it. And I got the thing in August. The warranty is one year from the date i received it or 90 days after the last repair. So basically my warranty is extended for an extra month. Ill see what happens.

Yes, its not a good sign. Buy extended warranty to be safe, it is much cheaper compare to motherboard replacement cost.

In the past, HP has a lot of failure units that due to GPU made Nvidia :(
