So, we bought my husband a new computer last night. It's the dv2130us. CompUSA was having a moonlight madness sale, so it was 20% off of the price of $1130 (bringing it to about $900). I hope that's a good price (tell me if it isn't because we have 21 days to return it!)...

    Here are the specs:

    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 (1.66GHz, 2mb l2 cache, 667 Mhz fsb)
    Windows XP Prof
    1024 Ram
    120 GB harddrive (5400 rpm)
Lightscribe SuperMulti 8x DVD RW drive with double layer support
Integrated 5 in 1 digital media reader

I'm playing with it a bit now to uninstall some of the crap and install things like zone alarm and avg and so far, so good. I'm more of a business laptop person, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I am pleasantly surprised at the build quality. He's not a heavy user, so I'm thinking this will be fine for him. It's nice and light too.

Anyway, the guy at CompUSA said that they just got in the 2100 series with the Core 2 Duo processors, so I thought someone might be interested in this info.

Edited to add: I checked, and it's a QDS screen. Yay!

Darn! I ordered the same setup except for an 80 gb HDD, no Lightscribe, and plus discrete graphics from the HP site more than a week ago (I haven't gotten it yet) for $900 (before tax) after APP discount so that looks like an excellent deal.

It always seems that the good deals come right after you buy something, doesn't it? I know I've had that feeling many times ;). The computer is very nice so far. I hope you like yours when you get it.

ETA: I just got back and they did a price adjustment thing for me. I returned it and rebought it at today's price so now I'm going to do the rebates. Thanks again for telling me about it!

The same thing happened with me. I bought the laptop on Moonlight Madness sale and the next day the prices dropped further. After reading the post here, I too did what snh628 did. Compusa guys did a price adjustment which is really sweet :)

BTW, snh628, if you want to partition C: drive further using partition magic, you might find problems as the drive is locked. The solution is run chkdsk/f from cmd prompt. It will say that drive is locked and whether you wanna check disk on restart Y or N. Select Y. Then restart comp. Once chkdsk is run, then use parition magic to partition the drive. This way you dont mess up with the 10GB recovery drive and dont have reinstall operation system either.

Did some research and found this info. Thought it worthwhile to share :)

Well, it does matter. Certain manufacturers look better. If it's manufactured by SEC, then it's normal for the display to look fuzzy....because the 2 SEC screens I've gotten look like s**t.

    Awesome Deal you got there!
How's the thickness of the laptop? Do u mind giving some measurements of thickness on the front and back?

    I believe it's:
Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager
    It's on Monitors.

    Thanks

Device manager > Monitors > Double click on Plug and Play monitors > click 'Details' tab > and it will say DISPLAY/.....

Where I put the ..... it will either say SEC, AUO, QDS, CMO, or LPL.

Yes indeed. Today it retails for $1079 after MIR. I got it for $800 after MIR.

    Reference: Compusa Website
    ----------------------
    Height: 1.5 in
    Width: 9.3 in
    Depth: 13.2 in
    Weight: 5.4 lbs
    ----------------------

What I really love is the 1.3MP webcam integrated on the display... Movies and other graphics are crystal clear, only text appears to be a little fuzzy may be because of the viewing angle.

The display make is LPL ... Someone has posted that its not the best screen, right?

So does this laptop feel rather thick?
I find any laptop thicker than 1" as thick :S

Also the site had said it was 1.04" thick =\

I dont find the laptop thick at all. You may be right. The actual height may be just 1.04". Overall the feel is very nice. My previous laptop Dell Inspiron 8600 had a very poor feel though it was very sturdy.
