I got my dv2500t today, but to my amazement I did not get any CD's in the pacakage, I was assuming I would get CD's like Windows Vista, other HP softwares etc. etc.

I do not care about other CD's but atleast want my vista cd with my package.

Am I missing something here ? is this how notebooks are now a days and if yes then how am i suppose to reinstall vista in future when required.

    Thanks

Your hard drive is partitioned and on the second partition are the files to burn recovery disks with. You can only burn 1 set, which you should do right away.

Beware though that they are full of the bloat that your system currently has on it and cannot be used to get a "clean" install of Vista.

To get a clean install read the sticky.

You would not get any recovery DVDs unless you had ordered them with the unit (CTO model). As for the Anytime Upgrade DVD, I'm not sure that everyone is getting one anymore. Distribution was becoming quite random when I bought mine a few months ago.............

Right, what you actually paid for was an bloatware OS that's already installed on your system, and you get to burn 1 copy of it. Talk about deceptive advertising, but no one complains because board moderators and companies say it reduces costs for laptop manufacturers. I think it's a joke if you ask me.

Find copies of XP, Vista, and follow a guide to reformat and start over. If you're new to this stuff then forget it. But if you have experience formatting a machine, then you can do it.

Just buy a Windows Anytime Upgrade disc. They cost like $7, you can use that and your current cd key to make a clean install. Though you may have to work a bit to get some of the drivers on the CD. Make sure you make that recovery disc backup though.

See the sticky guide on this forum. It explains how to do this in detail. There is a link to a anytime upgrade disc from Compusa on that sticky. I bought one from them and it was only 5.25 including shipping/tax. I think MS makes those available on the cheap on the hopes that people will actually use them to upgrade to ultimate vista etc.. But the guide shows you how to do a clean install with this using the same version of vista.
