The unboxing was fun.![]()
Then i turned it on and i was sad![]()
Called HP for a return. Had to order a new machine. More sad.![]()
Since it's a new shipment the Bing discount on the first one won't carry over. sad++![]()
Going through the hassle of the return sucks. Sigh...![]()

did you know that most of the time pixels just get stuck and arent dead? you can probably fix it by downloading a free utility program
-
$300.00+ for a dead pixel?
I say deal with it. -

I'm actually inclined to agree. Where is the pixel at? If it is in the corner or something I would just get over it or complain to HP about the Bing thing and get at least something taken off. -
If it doesn't work out of the box, it goes back. It's a top of the line notebook which should be subjected to a higher standard of quality control. I'm not paying HP to be their quality assurance/tech support person. It goes back and on their dime.
-
After some talking with the help desk, they have matched the Bing cash back of my first order. There wasn't a coupon they could apply. They charged me the full price then will credit me the discount later on.
-
The pixel was lower middle right of the screen. Lit bright red. Pretty hard not to notice. They were able to match the Bing discount after the person i was talking to talked to their manager.
-
Thats not a dead pixel! that's a stuck pixel! There are utilities to make them go away that are something like 70%+ effective

if the pixel is anything but black, it's just stuck. not dead like p51 said.
find some stuck pixel fixer and let it run on your laptop overnight. -
Already sent it back. If HP cant be bothered to at least check the screen before they ship out a laptop they can deal with the shipping charges and cost of rebuilding me a new one. Hell, the reason people are buying this laptop is for the screen. Two words HP, QUALITY CONTROL!
-
try rubbing it out and fooling with some pixel acid trip programs
last time i got a stuck pixel i ran some videos that changed the colors a lot and just rubbed at the pixel until i got it totally unstuck -
i disagree, it'll annoy the sh$t out of him for the next few years, it's not worth it to start off pissed off at your laptop
-
Why didn't you just run a program to see if you could "unstick" the pixel yourself? Would've been much quicker...
-
After 5 months I had 2 broken pixels and HP repaired it under warranty.
-
I would return laptop with the dead pixel in no time.... I never seen a stock pixel to go away, doesn't matter how many times I've tried turning it on and off. Waste of time imho.
-
Well, if it is a stuck pixel, stuck pixel removal programs are free and worth letting it run one night to see if it works. I don't see the harm. I got a couple stuck pixels once, ran a program and they were gone the next day and never came back.
Dead pixel on the other hand is unacceptable in this day and age. -

speaking of stuck pixels.
there's a red one on my blackberry. been meaning to fix it somehow.
downloaded that "fix stuck pixels for the psp" video you throw on a psp...gonna try it on the blackberry -
My sammy 20" desktop display had some red stuck pixels once. I pimp slapped it and they went away.

i poke them with q-tips. pimp-slapping is excessive imho -
1) 5:4 -> 16:10, wasn't a good move for internet browsing.
2) 16:10 -> 16:9 to improve the yield and reduce the cost of panels. Absolutely horrible for internet browsing
3) High end laptop with 16:9 screen is bad to begin with and to top it off dead pixel. -

*shrugs* I just leave the bookmarks thing open 24/7 when browsing (I use firefox)
it centers stuff on the screen nicely without making it too squished -

I'm not a fan of widescreen myself because it chops off pages vertically. The damn manufacturers are reducing the resolutions to "HD" hype and making everything shiny. Computer resolutions have been beyond "HD" for a long time. I'd rather sit on my couch and watch my plasma any day. -
I also experianced a dead or stuck pixel. Luckily I already had a second Envy on order with the 30% Bing. I am a bit annoyed that they dont even take the time to check or fix it if they did notice it. The first thing I saw when I turned the computer on was a bright orange dot in the middle of a black windows loading screen.
Got my Envy 14... with a dead pixel :(
