Got my sights on a HP 8710p - any buyers beware on those?

I'm so pleased with my 4-months old HP 6510b so i was planning on giving it to my gf for her birthday and buy a HP 8710p for myself. I read a few reviews and some postings on some forums and if i got it right the 8710p is:

    - very silent (no annoying fan noise)
    - cool to the touch (no burnmarks if i put it on my lap)
    - the Quadro NVS 320M is comparable to a 8700M GT when gaming
    - road warrior class sturdiness (can take a hit or two)

It would be very nice if someone with more 8710p experience could give a little mini-review on it and if they still think it was a good buy after using it for a while.

    Thanks in advance

NVS 320M is more like a 8400m gt or 8600m gs

    the nvs 570m is a 8600m gt

read the reviews in this website, the nvs 320m got a similar 3dmark score as the 8700M GT. And the quadro itself can use the 8700M GT Driver. I remember reading Greg's review about that...

Yeah, something like the NVS 320m doesn't use the same naming system as the Quadro 570m. As per Greg's review It's basically an 8700m GT.

It is a 8700GT, no doubt of that. Performs identically, as per all the tests I ran when I still had the laptop.

And no, I didn't sell it for a bad reason. I sold it because I needed to trade down to a desktop + 12" and save a little cash.

Thanks for the info. I see you have the 8710w that costs about 80% more than the 8710p. On the HP specs page the difference between the 8710p and 8710w seems to be a faster cpu and the Quadro FX 1600M 512MB with 1920x1200 resolution as opposed to the Quadro NVS 320M 256MB with 1680x1050 resolution but i guess they are roughly the same noise and heat wise.

It was your review that got me thinking of buying the 8710p, i will reread it and also the postings in the 8710p thread. Pricing is also interesting the 8710p costs about 80% more than the 6510b and the 8710w costs about 80% more than the 8710p. The 6910b and the 8710p costs about the same but a 6910b is no upgrade compared to the 6510b. I will keep my eyes open for good deals on the 8710p and if or when a good deal pops up i will probably buy it.
