I got this model. I just flased to the new bios there is now an opiton in the bios to dedicated specified amount of memory to the video card. It only goes up to 128MB. My machine has 2GB of ram. Now before I did the flash it said that the memory was set at 256mb for grapic card. I understand that the nvida card chipset for the 6150 and 6100 can change the memory for grapics as needed. My problem is I want to allocated 256mb for grapics how can I do this .... or should I throw in the towl and purchase one of the Intel Core 2 Duo models with the newer grapics card. I know on the amd versions the grapic memory is shared with sysem memory.

    Someone please help

The latest BIOS only allows the max memory to be at 128MB, the older BIOS allowed to use 256MB with 2GB but didnt have any way to control it. But setting it at 256MB is a waste IMO, the GPU is not fast enough and wont really make use of that extra memory. 128MB is fine for integrated graphics.

IF you want to waist 128mb just reflash to the old BIOS. The 6150 chip is not fast enough to utilize 256mb as Miner said (just like 7600 is not fast enough use 512mb but HP used to offer it with their dv9000)

yeah re flashing with one of the older BIOS might do the trick. but do remember that only the latest BIOS is supported by HP for use with Vista. So, if anything goes wrong you might not be covered under warranty.

Since you have 2GB of RAM, I would leave it at 128MB. 32MB is only recommended if you have 512MB RAM, 64MB if you had 1GB RAM. With 2GB the OS should have enough memory and shouldn't hurt your performance. Also Vista will/should allocate extra memory if any game you want to run needs it.

In reality, it doesn't matter if you are using Vista as an OS. Vista will automatically use some system RAM as video RAM. The idea of "dedicated video RAM" is RAM that will only be used as video RAM but is only more important for older OSs that didn't explicitly consider some system RAM as video RAM.

Or in other words, since you are using Vista, that option does nothing you should worry about.
