Hi. I'm thinking about purchasing a HP DV2500t, but I'm curious how much of a difference would a dedicated graphics card make on the battery life? Would it be significantly less than an integrated graphics chip?

I own a dv1240 and with the integrated intel graphics chip and the 12cell battery, the battery life could last up to 6 hours. Would a DV2500t with a dedicated graphics card and 12 cell battery be able to last about that long?

Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you.

5 hours should be a conservative estimate... And if you are talking about a 6 cell battery, then I'd say that the difference would not be more than half an hour on no load, b/w the integrated and dedicated graphics.

The effect of a dedicated GPU on the battery life will depend on several factors:

    1. The GPU hardware

    2. The quality of the GPU's power management

    3. Whether you are giving the GPU lots of work when running on battery

In the worst case you could easily drain the battery in 3 hours, not 6 and in the best case I think you would see a 20% to 25% reduction in running time.
