This is very frustrating. I can't figure out how to update the graphics drivers!

Am I supposed to do it from the Windows update? Or from HPs website? Or from AMD's website? What about the Intel integrated graphics drivers? How do I update that?

I installed the latest BIOS with static switching, and my performance in even light games such as FIFA 11 has decreased a LOT. I switched back to Dynamic, now windows says 'It has disabled the device' (Intel GMA and AMD 6770). So I want to reinstall the device.

    I have a 6121tx.

When you were in fixed mode, did you actually set it to the high performance GPU...?

To update the AMD driver you can use mobility modded driver by Asder00. You find it in Guru3d forum or his Twitter.

You must install the new driver on top of HP AMD driver, else it won't work.

@Hockeymass: Haha, yes of course. Performance isn't that bad.
@xAcid9: I'd prefer the official drivers...

(I know this is old, but I want to get back to this)

So I did a minimal system restore.
    I have drivers installed, working.
I want to update them to the latest ones, both Intel and AMD. How do I do this?
Asder00 has so many releases I'm confused which one to use :S

The only way to update Intel driver is wait for HP to release a new AMD driver. Btw, the latest from HP is version v8.830.6.3000.

IMO, if u're currently playing Rage or BF3 better get 11.10 preview 3, else just get 11.9.

Okay I'm downloading and installing 11.9 WHQL. I hope this fixes my performance as I'm getting 20fps less than I should in Crysis 2

EDIT: Wait, i'm supposed to download
    AMD Catalyst 11.9 Win 7 | Vista (64-bit)
    or
    AMD Catalyst Mobility 11.9 Win 7 | Vista (64-bit)

Oh god this is so frustrating.
    So I did the following:
    Express uninstalled everything AMD/ATI, reboot
Removed 6770 from device manager with driver, reboot
Removed newly automatically installed 6770, reboot
    Swept via driver sweeper, reboot
    Installed 11-9_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe, A ~90mb file.
    Got this message:
It said "Installation completed with warnings" and the installation seemed to have completed abnormally fast. Are these the usual packages to be installed? Looks incomplete.
Anyway, so now if I restart, I have 6770 in my devices but I don't have CCC or anything about my card in the desktop right click menu.

Trying same procedure with DNA 11.8.3...

EDIT: Wow. So DNA at least give me more packages to install, but it fails with the main one, display driverr.

I've tried extracting it in many different places.

^ Type "change device installation settings" in start menu. What is your setting there? Never install driver software from Windows Update?

It says never install software from windows update.

Also, I got the installation to complete successfully without any problems after a few random restarts. But now, the driver installed says "AMD Radeon HD 6700 series" in the device manager instead of "AMD Radeon HD 6770" that it should say :/.
Then I see a prompt from CCC that "No AMD Graphics driver is Installed, or AMD Driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD Driver appropriate for your hardware" .
Hence I don't have the option of "switchable graphics options" in my right click desktop menu, but I do have CCC. Although starting it gives an error "CCC Cannotbe started, there are currently no settings that can be configured using the ccc"

I'm really amazed at how frustrating this is turning out to be...

Okay, screw it, I'm doing a minimal restore again.

Now can someone PLEASE give me step by step instructions on how to install 11.9 drivers without screwing it up! Thank you so much.

This just gets better and better. I can't even do a minimal image recovery! It's disabled! It tells me to use factory reset and format my entire HDD :|

Sorry if I missed something, but when you install drivers other than the stock HP drivers, you have to have the stock HP drivers installed first everytime. You upgrade the driver on top of that.

So if you wanted to use the DNA 11.8.3 drivers you would:
    1. Install the stock HP drivers.
    2. Run the 11.8.3 driver, choosing custom installation.
    3. Just select the driver. Don't bother with CCC or the other things as they aren't necessary.

This is after a clean uninstall of your old drivers using the amd uninstall utility and driver sweeper.

Okay so I installed Stock HP drivers, then the DNA 11.8.3 drivers, restarted.

Now how do I check if I have 11.8.3 drivers? Just to verify? Device manager says driver number is "8.880.8.0"

EDIT: The device manager says AMD Radeon HD6700 series instead of AMD Radeon HD6770. Don't know if it matters, just saying.

device manager always says that, dont worry about it.

to check your version, go to the catalyst control center and there is a tab for software that will list the version

Uh no, that doesn't imply he is using the newer driver.
He just showed that he got a gimped up version of CCC.
Why would they mod out the Software/Hardware Information?

Try using dxdiag video tab or in system information on display.

    Print out the driver version.

I don't know why his CCC don't have Software/Hardware Information but since he said the driver version is 8.880.8.0, that is Catalyst 11.8 and from the screenshot i can see High Quality AF option which you can only find in DNA driver.

Options in CCC can be unhidden by tweaks even if the driver or card doesn't support it. If it works is a different story.

I saw his previous post that there was an error installing the driver set but the CCC was successfully updated.

He needs to verify which driver set is it is actually running.

Indeed, but he did verified that the driver version in Device Manager now is 8.880.8.0.

Just wait until you try to get the 6770m to do hardware assisted video transcription... ;) CCC seems to be implemented as a menu interface and merely provides an access path to 'feature' modules. If a feature is missing, it is most likely because a module is missing (or less likely, corrupt)...

But let's suppose you loaded the DNA drivers and want to revert back to HP's??? I had trouble UNTIL I FIRST unistalled (& delete) the DNA driver, and THEN used the Recovery Manager to reload the factory default. Then go through whatever 'upgrade' path you choose (over again).
