Screen was purchased from LAPTOP SCREEN, LCD panels from $42. Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, Acer, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Gateway, Apple, Asus replacement screen display panel

The laptop used in this guide is the HP Pavilion DV6-6100, seen here with the original Samsung SEC4251 (LTN156AT01) glossy display.

What you need to have first:

    1. The 1080p screen (I used the AUO V.4 purchased from the link below)
    AUO B156HW01 V.4 matte https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/B156HW01~V.4/
    AUO B156HW01 V.7 glossy https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/B156HW01~V.7/
    or a LG LP156WF1

    2. A 1080p screen cable for the HP DV6 (HP used a cable that supported only 768p)
LCD LVDS Cable of HP Pavilion DV6-6000 FHD 50.4RN10.022

    The new AUO screen used

Remove the HDD which is secured by 4 screws. Also remove the 2 connectors at the side of the HDD using the plastic pull-tabs.

Then remove the wifi module and antennas. Unscrew the single screw holding the Optical Disc Drive, then slide the ODD out. Removal of RAM is optional.

Start removing the top cover by using moderate amount of force from the right side. There are many plastic tabs so be careful.

Tilt the panel forward as shown. Unscrew 8 tiny screws, 4 from the left of the panel and another 4 from the right side.

Then remove all the screws found on the left hinge.

Remove the old screen cable from the connector at the back of the panel and the webcam. There is double sided tape applied, so be cautious.

Then put in the new screen cable and the new 1080p panel. Reverse the steps to reassemble the notebook.

The colours are really vibrant on the AUO.

Hi, first of all congratulations for making this guide  I have a few questions to ask, that corsair ram it's 1600 mhz right? I was wondering if my dv6-6060 it's ready to take that dimms.. About the display, do you recommend that specific brand and version? How about glossy? And about the brightness, it's brighter than the original one? Thanks!

    Yes it is 1600C10.
I recommend AUO B156HW01 V.4, it is one of the best displays around with high gamut and very bright.
    Brighter than the original one.

The best are the V4 and V7.

V4 is matte while V7 is glossy. Your preference, though I got the V4.

Thanks! I think I should order from here LP156WF1 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN FOR B156HW01 V.4 (Rs. 7,783)
Is that okay? They have dead pixel policy of 1 to 5. What does it mean? One more thing what should I need to plug this panel in my laptop? Any 40pin connector will work or not? What is the part number of that pin?

But they have written it is compatible with hp dv6. I am worried about purchasing from waresphere as I am from India and personally trust ebay.in.
    BTW What is the differences between AUO models B156HW01 V.0 V.3, V.4, V.5, V.7
I want matte screen with the best image quality. These are available on ebay imported from US but they have dead pixel policy of 1 to 5. What does it mean? Thanks for your helpful response.

Make sure it should work on my dv6-6165tx It comes with default pathetic 1366x768 glossy screen. That produces extremely poor colours, worse than my 5 year old hp laptop.

The reason why I ordered from laptopscreen is because they guaranteed the exact part to be sent to you. Beware that ebay may be selling just compatible screens.

    Hello,

    great tutorial - thanks!

At the moment I also think about replacing my screen with a 1080p screen.
My device is the HP Pavilion dv6-6108sg.
But I have a few questions:
    1) The last days I read some articles about changing the displays in forums. I also read that the AUO B156HW01 v. 4 is a TN Panel. My question now is whether it is possible to build in also an IPS Panel which are told to be better in image quality and a stable perspective. Is that right? Is it possible to choose another display type? If yes, are there any suggestions which display I should choose?
    2) There are several versions of displays of AUO B156HW01? Where's the exact difference? Is the v. 4 still the best display I should choose for replacing my actual screen or are there any other displays? I also didn't much read about other display brands for replacing. Is there a problem with replacing the screen with for example a samsung screen?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

I found it a bit confusing and ordered a AUO B156HW01 V.7 from an German EBay seller. I checked the back of it and it was a V.5 which is the worst of all. I sent it back to him and he told me it arrived broken in the mail. Well to cut a long story short I got my money back and ordered a AUO B156HW01 V.4 Matte from the US site the tutorial is from. I got the cable from the Chinese site. It all worked but the cable was so short and awkward I spent ages putting the laptop back together again.

My advise is to get the Matte version V.4. Its the best of the V's. Or if you want glossy get V.7 but its a pain having such a reflection and the Matte ( I had glossy before) has no downsides. Great viewing angles are great. I really am so happy with it.

The AUO is awesome providing you are actually looking at 1080p video or high quality pictures like your desktop background.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6117dx laptop, with a 15.6" LED (1366x768). A lot of you guys have i7's and stuff. Mine has the AMD A8, if I get a replacement 1080 screen, will I get 1080 capabilities and vibrant colors. Right now I want to change my screen to anythng because the viewing angles and colors are horrific. I'm still not sure which cable to get though, it is something I have to take apart first, then see which cable to order, or what? I'm clueless when if comes to this stuff. I certainly apprereciate your help.

    Hello all,

I purchased the AUO B156HW01 V.4 and the LCD LVDS Cable of HP Pavilion DV6-6000 FHD 50.4RN10.022. Whenever I installed both, the power plug LED on the laptop just blinks. Is it possible that there's something wrong with the display cable? Or is it the display that's the issue? I've tested another motherboard and the same issue occurs. It'd be much appreciated if someone could help me out!

Update: Got everything to work after ordering the cable from HP Parts instead, I called and placed the order and 15% off.

Hello everyone and thank you very much for the tutorial!

Question, I just ordered an AUO B156HW01 V7 from ebay. It was salvaged from a Dell XPS L501x. The LCD panel is also bundled with the stock LCD LVDS cable from Dell. To my understanding, the stock HP 1376x768 LVDS cable will not work with the screen unless i get a compaitble 1920x1080 cable. Will the bundled cable work with my HP DV6 laptop or is HP really picky on their LCD LVDS cables? Are all cables physically the same? Thanks guys.

A late answer, but yes. They are compatible. The HP Part Surfer website will suggest you to buy the 665305-001 if you search for the 656805-001.

I just came across this thread here and now I want to replace my crappy lcd of my DV6 too. But the thread seems dead and the AUO screens are discontinued for a long time now. All offers on ebay are just offering "compatibe" screens, so not the exact one described in their title..

Which fullhd screens are recommendable now?
I looked at panelook.com aand there are only a few compatible left:
    http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.php?ids=688,683,16512,5707,5704,20471,12286

    These are also discontinued.

Technically, with a proper cable, all panels should be compatible. Be it HD, HD+ or FHD.

In real life, I do sometimes run into cases where some panels just do not work with certain laptop models. I might get no picture at all or image could be shifted partially out of screen, weird stuff like that and those panels are spec-wise compatible.

Recommendable panels is another matter. Color reproduction, viewing angles, brightness... That's where peoples experiences are needed. Without those panels are just numbers.

I have a HP Pavillion DV-6 3101tx, not satisfied with the 1366 x 768 screen, is it possible for a swap to a FHD panel? In default, the laptop comes with a touch display, I think I can still get a new panel and get a bezel for the non-touch version to snap it on. Is it possible? If yes, what are the latest parts that I should get? I've read above that the AUO panel is long gone, what's next best?
