Honestly, this computer is starting to do my head in.

I've got Linux installed alongside Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit), but hardly use it. When I turn the computer on, I have to select which OS to load up. However, when my mum turned on the computer, she accidentally selected the wrong option. I, unfortunately, do not know which one she selected, and nor does she. :)/) After turning it off and fiddling about, I managed to boot it up again, went through to the Windows loading screen and then said it was configuring updates (I had installed updates the night before). However, after finishing the configuration, the laptop shuts itself down, then reboots. Then I have to select the Windows option when prompted. It loads up, says it's configuring updates, finishes and then shuts down again, and boots up itself. This process repeats itself until I hold the power button myself.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening? Or does anyone have a vague idea of what is happening?
