    Hi,

I just discovered in the past couple weeks that my dv2120 plays HD video. The picture is outstanding, but I have some trouble with choppiness when there's camera movement in the frame. This also occurs in Madden and NBA Live. Here's what I'm running:

HP dv2120us with Vista Home Premium
Nvidia Geforce 6150 with the latest HP drivers (Feb 07)
    1GB RAM
    AMD Turion 64x2

When running HD video, CPU load is about 50-55%. Clearly that's not the problem.

I've done the reading on laptopvideo2go.com and still don't understand which driver I should pick. It sounds like I could choose anything and it would work with the modded INF. But is anybody running a similar system to mine who could recommend a driver?

    Thanks!

I'm far above the minimum for NBA Live, but it says I fail for Madden (doesn't like the notebook chipset.) I have no trouble actually playing either game. It's more an aesthetic concern, and my main interest is improving my HD playback.

k, I just wanted to know how good that GPU was...

Something that you can try is Changing the Priority of the program playing the HD video.

    to do this;
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del
    Select Task manager.
goto the second tab locate the program playing the video.
    Right click the application.
    goto: 'Set Priority'>'High'

I wouldn't recommend setting 'real time' because that can cause stability issues.

See how that runs, if it is still choppy it could be a RAM issue.

If it were a RAM issue, wouldn't my CPU use be at 90-100%?

I tried changing to high priority and there wasn't a noticable difference in performance. The main issue is a horizontal line about 1/3 to 1/5 from the top of the screen that stutters when there's camera movement. The priority change seemed to speed up the stuttering, but did not eliminate the line.

Well your gpu isnt exactly the best. im not suprised at all that your getting choppiness

Best you can do is try www.laptopvideo2go.com drivers. Try using the latest 169.09 driver first, ifs no good then try using 15x.xx drivers. You drivers are a year old!

What program are you using to play them?

Upgrading to 2GB or 4GB RAM (you'll only be able to use 3.25GB) might help and is a good idea regardless, but I suspect your main problem is that you have a shared memory GPU that isn't quite potent enough. The 6150 is one of the better integrated GPUs but it's still no match for a dedicated memory GPU. Hopefully HP will bring out new AMD Puma platform notebooks around June, then it'll be time to upgrade :D.

I’m playing .mkv files on VLC Media Player. Switching between DVD and the HD for playback didn’t make a difference in performance.

Yeah, so I’ve learned. I know the new drivers HAVE to up performance somewhat, and all I really need is a little boost to smooth things out. Things are still very watchable as they are right now. I’ll give the 169.09 a shot and go from there. Thanks!

Yeah, the GPU seems to be the issue. I didn’t even know about shared-memory GPUs until earlier this week. Hooray for surprises!
