Get yourself an extrenal 2.5" USB 2.0 drive cage for your old notebook drive. Install the new HDD, install your OS and get everything working. Once everything is working, just connect your USB drive and transfer everything you need to the new HDD. Now you have an external USB drive available for data transfer or backup.
