Good evening, im at my wits end with my new laptop (DV2188EA). After the sound issue getting me rather frustrated, im also suffering temperature issues.

The temperature has always been hot, but since i've installed a few apps, it becomes almost painful to hold.

After downloading HDtune and Speedfan, i've discovered that temps seem way to high of those suggested on here

Im using Vista and always have the power setting on balanced, quite restricted settings most times.

The temps are as follows after a while (just firefox running):

    HD0:67
    Temp1:68
    Temp2:68
    Core0:57
    Core1:57

Reading around this seems far too hot, im guessing the Temp1/2 is the GPU? The HD sometimes gets up to 69 when running a lot of stuff.

Is there anything I can do to help this? Perhaps the HD not seated properly? I know vista uses a lot of power, but to make the computer painful to hold it ridiculous.

Used HP for years but lately they seem to be lacking somewhat.

look into getting a laptop cooler that sits under it. Without a laptop cooler I know my hd gets into the higher 50s...But with a laptop cooler I can keep mine steady in the mid 30's. The laptop cooler will probably help your other temps too.

Go back to XP then. My XP V3000 only goes to 62 when I am watching corrupted online TV(lot of error correction and many TCP/UDP sessions).

So the only real solution for this Vista ready laptop is to go back to XP?

Will be sending it back tomorrow!

My machine c2d dv2000t is having similar heat problems. But it seems worse for me - so much so I get random and instant poweroffs when it gets really warm. See the 'how hot is too hot' thread.

I sent mine in and they replaced the motherboard - with the wrong one. Now it goes back again...

Lol oh dear, fortunately im covered for another 2 months here in the UK for it to go back to the store for an immediate refund. Have called the store who are sending me out a replacement when its in stock and will let me have this one for a while until its up and running and all stuff transferred.

Would be interested on hearing how people with vista are fairing with the 2000 model. are the drives the same manufacterer/series? Believe mine is a seagate momentus 5400 100gb.... which oddly enough i was waiting for the 160gb 7200 version to come into stock and get that.

Says the max operating temp is 55 degrees... its sat at 60 now on idle :(

its simply luck of the draw what drive you get. apparently its either a seagate or hitachi that you get with your HP.

you probably should invest in a notebook cooler

I would look at a cooler as a feasible option of cooling a normal laptop a bit more... but for it to need a cooler to operate within its safe limits is a bit much

    I have the same problem. My notebook dv2100CTO is a Core 2 Duo 7200 2.0Ghz, 1.5 MB Ram, Geforce 7200 128MB, HD 80GB Hitachi, DVD/rw, 14.1 Wide.

After upgrade Windows Media Center to Windows Vista Home Premium, the temps measured are:
    CPU: 55C
HD: 55C ~ 62C using defrag program or full load.

I don't know whatelse I have to do.
    Can someone help me?

    Thanks in advance.

to my experience, Vista is causing the HEAT. Vista also runs the fan 24/7. the way i sloved the problem was to back to XP. thats it. simple and easy as that and thats the only way. if u dont like that way then return the notebook.

I agree with you. Sorry but I forgot to answer this post earlier.
I went back to Windows XP Media Center and the HD temperature is not hot until now. The palmrest at the left side is fresh.

You can see below the temperature measured of HD Fujitsu using Windows Vista and the pdf file of HD manufacturer.
I have a question about this issue. Could this problem just happen with a specific Hard disk model or manufacturer?
Does someone has another Hard Disk model?

I am using XP Media center and I am having some heat problems with the hdd temp. I think it provably have to do with the laptop design or the hdd. I am about to upgrade to Vista Business, I expect the temps to be about the same.

I have the same HDD model in my V3000 and the temperature range is between 45C - 51C with Windows XP. I have not seen it increase beyond this range even under heavy disk usage.

With Vista I havent been able to check the temps since no program has been able to display the HDD temperatures. But from what I can feel from the left palm rest is that it does runs a bit hotter but I have no idea if it is operating above the critical temps since I am unable to measure it.

mine is a Samsung. lately it have been running between 51-55* under normal load and when full load it reach 60 or + some times. While 51-55 it just feel little warm and at full load it feel more warm, but not hot enough to cause disconfort. I also think that the weather is a factor on the Computer's temp.

I just installed Vista Business this morning, but I have not been able to play around with it yet. I will try to check the hd temp tonight and see how the computer works under Vista.

At the Windows Vista, you can use HDTune Program. Download it here http://www.hdtune.com/

My dv2100CTO has the heat issue too. I emailed tech support and they had me upgrade the BIOS from 23 to 26. I'm running Vista Business and if I play a game like CS:S it shuts off completely after about 20 minutes. I tried to underclock the GPU with nTune from 450 to 400 but that didnt' help at all. Funny thing is, nTune reported the GPU temp at around 84C, while just idling in windows. I really like this laptop but i doubt i'll buy another HP if they don't resolve this for me. Anyone had any luck in getting this fixed?

    Temp1: 79C
    Temp2: 79C
    Core 0: 50C
    Core 1: 50C
