I own a dv9500t with a 8600MGS 256MB video card and I am connecting it to my Sony HD TV through the HDMI port. I am downloading HD torrents that are in 720p HDDVD x264 format and my question is when playing this on my TV what resolution am I truly getting? in other words do I get true 720p on my LCD since i'm using the HDMI? I have the resolution when connected to my TV to 1280X720 (the highest it will go anyways)...what if I went directly via the RGB input from laptop to TV...do I still get 720p?

Wondering if anybody else has been doing this and what your thoughts are.

    thanks,

I wonder if I have to do anything special to connect my dv6651 notebook to the LCD tv.

I connect them using the HDMI cable, but the picture I get on the LCD TV has low color depth. I checked the settings and it is set to 32bit color - the highest possible and the same on my laptop - but it is actually not.

    any ideas or suggestions?

This is most likely the LCD tv's setting. May i ask which exact TV it is? Where are you changing the settings? like the nvidia settings?

it is a philips PFL something ( I cant remember the exact model number now)

I change the settings from nvidia control panel on my laptop.

I am sure the color setting for LCD TV is set to 32 bit in nvidia contol panel, but the picture I get is obviously poor.

when I connect the laptop via S-cable, I don't have that color depth problem by the way. but of course the quality is poorer
