You may regret turning off System Restore when you encounter a problem with an update, driver install, etc. Vista sets aside 15% of your HD space for System Restore points. If you really need the space, turning it off is your call, but if the storage space reduction just bugs you and is not causing a problem I would leave System Restore turned on.

You can periodically remove all system restore points except for the last one when doing a disk cleanup and reclaim used space.

System Restore has saved my behind more than once, the last being when trying to install SP3 on an older PC with Windows XP. The video driver that SP3 installed during the upgrade bombed my PC causing restarts when trying to Hibernate or Sleep. I could not get my PC working again, even after reinstalling the original video driver, but System Restore got me going.

    Just my $.02.

I agree, you will regret turning off system restore one day. I suggest keeping it on unless your a power user.
