Has anyone gotten these to play nicely together? I have tried 4 different HD Movies in this drive and PowerDvd Ultra is telling me:
Quickplay just keeps wanting to activate and update with that 178mb file. I download it and nothing...

I've gone through the forum so if anyone has anything NEW to try please let me know.

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, now QuickPlay says there is no disk in...Even though it can read the label. Does anyone have this same setup and it is working?

Thanks but I had searched and read all the posts. I just can't figure this out...I don't want to call HP Support because they are probably going to tell me just re-install Vista Home 32 Bit

Hi, i've got a HDX with a HD DVD drive, what i've done is to have a dual boot system, vista 32 bit and 64 bit, because i thought playing HD DVD's on vista 64bit would be difficult.

It took me almost a day to figure out how to play the disc's on 32bit vista, so on 64bit would be almost impossible.

What i would do is to go into Quickplay, and keep on updating, i did it 3 or 4 times before my HD DVD's played.

RealtorKen, I was in the same boat as you. I received my dv9500t with 64-bit Vista last night and had to seemingly download Quickplay about 4x before the installation finally took and it played my Harry Potter: OoTP HD-DVD. (I can't remember the exact number because I think my husband downloaded Quickplay twice before he gave up in disgust and I stuck with it through 2 more download installs before it finally took.)

Now if I can only solve why the Intel Pro Wireless card 4965AGN in the unit won't play nice with my Netgear Rangemax N . . . .

    Hey mujjuman,

I probably can use something different, but this laptop is only 3 months old and would like to fix the problem and have it working properly along with any other program that might do the job. I just would want them to fix something and make it work like I had paid for in the first place I guess.

I have TSL-802A and use it as an external drive with my Sony SZ. So far, I don't have any problem. Which movies that you have a problem with?

Ok just to give everyone an update... After about 15-20 hours on the phone with HP they are building me a dv9700 with the Blu-Ray at no charge. Definitely will end up very happy now that its pretty much official that Blu-Ray is the winner of the HD war.

My case manager has been decent up to this point, everyone else in CS was HORRIBLE! I'll let you know how it goes once I get the lappy.

Yes brand new... I had ordered and received the dv9500 in November and now I am getting the dv9700t with Blu-Ray. I just called the case manager and the order was approved by his higher ups. So I now have a estimated build date of 1/30/08.

    "CS" is Customer Service.

    After reading http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=208299

Can anyone see any reason why I shouldn't just swap the drives from my laptop made in December with the new one thats coming? I know the process is straight forward and all.

    OMG!!!

I just checked my order status and specs form my replacement and they are wrong! Grr

They are building my lappy with the 8400gs instead of the 8600 video card

Well I called my case manager and I reminded him he never called me when my replacement was approved. I also informed him that he ordered the wrong system for me. Of course he told me no problem, give me a call when you receive it.

Well I had been debating up to today what I was going to do when he started trying to entice me to just keep the wrong setup... Now I see they have the dv9700t with the 2.5ghz processor.

What do you think the possibilities are that I can get Case Management to approve a 2nd replacement with that nice little upgrade for all my grief?

This thread looks dormant, but I bought an HDX 9010NR in December and have the same experience with the TS-L802A dvd drive. Works with all media except HD. Many long chat discussions with HP support and am now waiting for a replacement drive. Sounds like there is little hope of that solving the problem.

I have a list of service patches and updates that is too long to repeat all of which were installed and none of which made a bit of difference. If there is a solution, I would be grateful.

Unfortunately I own a laptop (ASUS VX2S) with a TS-L802A drive. I am experiencing the same problem one way or the other. My Vista 32 bit was at least playing some HD DVD, but only those prior a certain date (this is a common problem with Toshiba HD-DVD players, and Toshiba has issued firmware upgrades for those) Since I run Vista 64 bit, it will not play HD DVDs at all.

The TS-L802A drive has been developed and manufactured by TSST ( http://www.tsstorage.com/info_e/ts-l802ae.html), which is a joined venture between Samsung and Toshiba, specializing in optical drives. Their site will list some data on this drive, which was the first HD DVD drive available. I think it is pretty safe to assume we who all have this drive are SOL, since there are no driver updates to be expected after the dump of HD-DVD, let alone firmware upgrades.

It probably better to see if you can find a substitude Blue-ray drive. You should be able to get something like that to work.

Sorry for not bringing better news.
