If your 2530p has either the 2.5" 160GB or 120GB hard disk drive, would you happen to know if it's fitted into the slot where the optical drive would have went? If so, it's very likely that there is an empty slot where a 1.8" hard drive would have went in models containing a optical drive. I have a feeling that this could open possibilities for a dual drive setup using an additional SSD.

There are two SATA ports on the 2530P. One at the optical drive the other at the 1.8" drive bay. So yes.. if you get the special SATA cable, there is no reason why you could not have an additional 1.8" SSD. Summarized parts required in following doc (from HP Service & Maintenance and "Drives XP" Guides) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B8IQ63RG

Oh hi there nando4. I remember seeing your posts on both HP's own website as well as in a discussion over the 2510p and its tantrum-inducing 1.8" ZIF HDD. That along with the GMA X3100 graphics are the only things keeping me from having one already.

That document you provided is just about everything I need. Hmmm... would I go to buy that bracket? Is it possible that HP would sell me one?

    Thanks for the help.

Forget those 1.8" 5400 rpm drives. They clearly have better transfer rates than the 4200 rpm versions, but the access times are still really really bad for a system drive, you can't compare them to fast 2.5"/3.5" drives. So if you really want good performance you actually have no other choice than buying a SSD. But the Problem is, there aren't very many 1.8" SATA SSDs yet, I only know about the very expensive Intel X18-M and some new Samsung MLC drive, P/N MMCRE64G8MPP. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any reviews of the last one or some detailed specs, like which controller Samsung is using for the drive.

Coming from 20mb/s 4200rpm 1.8" ZIF, the 128MB Samsung Slim SSD on EBAY 90/70MBps look quite attractive. Good thing about the 2530P or 2510P has the option of swapping out the optical drive for a 2.5" SSD/HDD, the 2510p being limited to 133MB/s of it's PATA interface, the 2530P by it's 300MB/s SATAII interface.
